Whilst he aint dub-step-hyperism defintely a 'modernist' guitar player, and one of the
more unique and 'world class' influential artists from Australia.
Most of you probably know his sound/style - noise guitar fused with a cinematic Morricone-like grandeur informed by the post-punk neurosis - you only have to hear this decades more 'groovy' hipster bands like Yeah, yeah, yeahs and Crocodiles, amongst others to get the reach.
He gave Nick Cave an edge and a style, Rowland was one of the original Aussie 'hipsters' and definitely set the wheels in motion of a sonic counter-invasion that in a way contributed to the reconfiguration English post-punk into the bliss-out of the late 80s (Mary Chain, MBV, Creation sound).
