So I dug up this thread and it turns out I already voted. I wonder what for?
Anyway, Kraftwerk are playing Bestival this year, it turns out. Will they be great? I went to Bestival two years ago and had a great time but was in pretty constant fear that it was going to rain and I would get trench foot or similar. I am utterly useless outside of major cities.
So if people can tell me that
a) Kraftwerk will be awesome and
b) that it will not rain
I would be much obliged.
a) and not b) will require some thought on my part
not a) and b) less so

never been to see kraftwerk live but i'll bet it's amazing. i don't think the live performance'll be changed much even tho florian's left.
i've just had a thought. the fact that only ralph remains from the classic 'werk lineup could mean that it might be their last tour for a while (maybe even ever?). pure speculation obviously, but it is a sobering thought.
wouldn't be at all surprised if the kraftwerk thing transcended all the original members. they're making leaps and bounds in the world of robotics and ai these days. surely only a matter of time before autonomous intelligent robots do the entire show.

Saw them at the Brixton Academy a couple of years back. Awesome, including use of what seemed to be vintage slides from the 70s for the older tracks like Autobahn and leaving the stage for robots to "play" Robots. The also did a couple of tracks in German. Pretty much a perfect gig apart from the twerp talking on his mobile a few feet away from me.

This was pretty much what they did at Manchester, bar mobile phone idiot, except with a fantastic 3D bit and - AND - the British Olympic Cycling team doing laps of the track in the velodrome during Tour de France. It was awesome. And you could tell that Ralf Hutter was really chuffed about it all, too. He thanked them twice.

One of them (on the left) is far to animated to be a real member as he's nodding his head and moving his leg at the same time.

Voted for the last one as that's the one I play the most... I have a confession though - I've never heard the first three... I have been thinking of buying the CD bootlegs on Crown or Germanofon - any clues on which has the best sound quality or weather I should just stump up the cash for the original vinyl?
I've listened to Man Machine and Computer World, albeit not very closely as yet. They both sounded great though, rich and clear, the bass especially seems significantly improved. Man Machine sounded way better than I'm used to hearing it but I've only ever had a v.worn vinyl so can't say for sure how much better it is.
It's Kraftwerk though, attention to detail is what they do.
I'm aiming to get hold of Der Katalog, prefer the songs in German.

Had a chance to compare my original Electric Cafe CD, which I think is actually from 1986, with the new one (Techno Pop) and the difference in sound is quite dramatic. The old one always did sound quite dull though and I think there was probably another issue after the '86 one.

Reading through this thread I thought some people might be interested to hear this.
It's a bootleg from from Kraftwerk's quite poorly documented krautrock era. Essentially it's Florian Schneider with the Neu duo Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother on drums and guitar - and the three of them grind out some of the best industrial hard-rock and heavy metal you're ever likely to hear.
It's completely unlike any of the albums listed in this poll (even Kraftwerk 1 & 2) and much heaver/meatier than anything Neu would go to record. I think it's a real shame that this incarnation of Kraftwerk is continually overlooked because they produced some of the best experimental rock of the early 70s. Obviously it's understandable because Kraftwerk's body of work post-Autobahn is so seminal it simply dwarfs everything else recorded under that name.
