"That's so funny, when I screened it I showed it as a double bill with Theorem, they complement each other really well."
I don't know whether or not it's an acknowledged influence but it seems to be stated every time I read about it.

"I watched 'The Passenger' for the first time the other week and really enjoyed it. Great use of the Gaudi rooftop architecture for one scene. I'm not sure about Antonioni, though. 'Blow-Up' is very overrated and poorly edited...in my humble opinion. I know he's famous for long takes of nothing happening but, really..."
I think The Passenger is awesome. Very weird and kind of existential I guess.

Anyone seen Once? It's a musical, written by a guy who was apparently in the Frames (Irish indie band of which I know nothing), and follows a Dublin busker who forms a band with a Czech girl he meets. It's a very simple film, but it's very affecting.

(Edit: just IMDBed it, the writer/director used to be in the Frames, the main actor is still in the band and was in The Commitments and is now coupled up with Czech girl and recording music with her. Which is rather lovely.)

It's had blinding reviews, but seemed to come and go from the cinema in a twinkling. Where did you see it?

Went to a screening of the new coen bros last week - No Country For Old Men. Best film I've seen all year, by a distance.

I saw it at the Belmont Picturehouse in Aberdeen, it's only had a run of four days though. If you're London based, that little one on Shaftsbury Avenue might be showing it... Can't remember what it's called, but I once went there to see 9 Songs (bad move) and it seems the sort of place that would run it.

"ghost world"...from 2001, based on the dan clowes graphic novel (feat. teenage thora burch and scarlett johansen), worth renting or catching on cable. steve bucemi and the other record collector geeks are just too good.

My brother absolutely raves about this film. I'll see it sometime.

LOL. Can't move in those small towns for Hollywood types seeking the authentic unspoilt Texan vibe.

'london to brighton' if only because none of the cast got paid, it was made on shoe string and rarely in cinema does london look more like london.

This must be the most mentioned film in the thread! Classic.

Last week I saw an anime called Tekkonkinkreet, which was excellent.

Then Darjiling Limited which was also very very impressive. I was so hyped for it I was prepared for a disappoint, but it was good and dealt with different themes from the average Wes Anderson without deviating too much. Lots of self referential jokes too!

Dai Nipponjin (Big Man Japan): weird spoof documentary about a giant Japanese super hero. Didn't quite come off but was still quite amusing.

Wool 100%. Quality Japanese film about two kleptomaniac sisters and a girl addicted to knitting... Good stuff.

Last, but certainly not least, the new Coen Brother's movie, No Country for Old Men. Amazing thriller, great suspense, no compromise. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this... but there were some really serious flaws for my money. The cliched gang boss who appears to live in a strip club and the convenient ending I could just about swallow but the enormous plot holes were problematic. Good acting though and real tension at times. That toilet scene in the start was shot in The Old Blue Last by Old St apparently.

i just saw 'no country for old men' & man its sure worthy all the praise its getting. absolutely brilliant, quite disturbing & beautiful. that air-gun was fucked up!
also 'coeurs' (hearts) i really enjoyed. theres been some really shitty french films being released here recently so this was pretty refreshing.

i am legend - i thought this was really good, really bleak for a blockbuster, and will smith does an amazing job in the lead part.

Beast of Burden
A documentary on Joe D'Amato and his "oeuvre" (shall we say) on the flip CD of Images in a Convent - now that was absolutely hilarious! What fun! I also watched Love Actually which was just bizarre but not as good as Kiss Me Monster.

Mr. Tea

Let's Talk About Ceps
Took my five year old daughter to Ratatouille and we both absolutely loved it.

Heh, yeah, it's good, isn't it? Only thing that bothered me was what an American kid with an Italian name is doing on his own in Paris - no reason why he shouldn't be, it just wasn't explained.

Peter O'Toole as Ronald Ego (geddit?:)), or whatever the restaurant critic was called, was especially great.
