You were right to put DJ SS in. Leicester's finest.

yeah man SR has that mid-90s stuff championing "functionalist" jungle...like the kind of glue that holds a scene together...the meat & potatoes which all the micro-innovations & experimentalism & sub-sub-genres can then garnish...mixing analogies badly...anyways I reckon that RAM & Formation embody that functionlist "junglist's jungle"...also SS is kind of the bridge from '94-95 ambient jungle & amen rinseouts to '96 hardstep...

Someone should do a mix featuring everyone that's been mentioned (or as many as is possible).

Have you heard the Soundmurderer mix CD? 3 mixes, 2 of which feature back to back classics, although all the slower moments are cut out, which can get a little tiring.

good call - yeah it's absolutely FANTASTIC - very much on a ragga ting - well the 3rd mix is more leftfield/proto-techsteppish I guess, like early Tech Itch, "Drones", Plug & those Japanese nutters...uh Cycheout something other...actually speaking of which...

not heard that last d'cruze tune before - it's stunning.
sounds like it might sample that guy who did those hundreds of ambient records in the 90's forgotten his name, peter someone.

The other side of it is even better..A remix(?) of 'heaven' from Subplates 3, around the same time as the 'Control' LP, which is a chronically overlooked album...

well I didn't know about them so thank you...that's me done for the ride to & from work for the next week or so...

You should really enjoy those Naphta mixes, they're absolute classics. Damn the old goat, but when he's good, he's really good.

Oh - and I nominated myself for 'best mix of the decade' for my Black>>Dark Crystl mix in that set... :D

Yeah - FAX records. Bit of a techno/chill out vibe going on - very disposable, worst exceses of Rising high thing going on. 'The Definitive Ambient Collection' 1 +2 are pretty much all you need to know about the man's music, some great tunes on that.

hey droid, sorry if this has been answered before but do you know what's going on with that dextrous - heavenly body tune? Did it ever get released or did it come out with a different title? Want it so badly and can't find it anywhere.

Beast of Burden
Bay-B-Kane, Crystl...

I mean these guys made such stunning music and then just stopped...maybe understandbly...but what happened to them? I've asked this before, I know. How do you climb down in life from such a peak? Did they just become pro studio engineers or what?

I voted for Foul Play/Gurley in the end.

Talking of Bay-b-kane, this is a really good record. When Reynolds talks about 93 music being a kind of protozoa for jungle/drum n bass, I always think of it. It's really weird: it changes completely about 5 times in 4 minuntes. It's overloaded with ideas and barely holds together. And it sounds amazing for it.
