"R'n'B" recommendations PLEASE!?

Dont think so hint, their wikpedia article says that the beauty of distortion double pack was a taster for their album that was meant to be released in autumn last year.

As I understand it "Beauty In Distortion / Land Of The Lost" is that album. It's not a mixtape.

Or are you referring to something more recent?

I think Land of Lost was a mixtape initially but then it was remade as a album to be released as a double pack with with Beauty In Distortion. Ive only heard clips but I might get. It kinda sounds 'interesting' on first listen but sometime I go off stuff like this quite quicky.

edit : or what owen said

Loved the SoBones mix, nice one rosebeast. Common & Pharrell tune is a cracker!

Cheers! Some of Pharrell's new stuff with Clipse has started to leak. So Far I haven't been too impressed. Nothing has even come close to matching the immensity of something like Mr Me Too. I'd say this one with Keri Hilson is pretty good though.

Just thought I'd chime in and say that So Bones mix is really great. Don't know the first thing about this stuff to be perfectly honest, but will be perusing this thread with interest from now on.

Edit: Actually I can contribute slightly, there's a nice remix of Ciara - Go Girl up for download on the Lucky Me Myspace. Or here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/luckymedia/Go Girl ( Ciara, T Pain, Mileece, The Blessings ).mp3 if you are lazy. Though I like the original a lot so I may be biased.

Ah.... interesting. Some of it had been floating around for so long that I assumed it was the result of an abandoned major label project when it finally got released.

Lots of great music on there. Drifts by a little if you listen to it all at once, but it's great to dip into the tracks individually.

I think it's a Hud Mo mashup / edit of Kiss Kiss and a tune called Eagle Diary by 7vwwvw. Assuming you're talking about the one in their player here: http://www.myspace.com/7vwwvw

They say "AS YOU MIGHT EXPECT, WE HAVE HAD A FEW NOTES OF INTEREST REGARDING THESE REMIXES OR MASHY UPPY OR HOWEVER YOU SAY IT NOWADAYS SO YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT WE HAVE BORROWED THEM FOR THE SAKE OF LETTING THEM BE HEARD BUT IT IS THEIR WORK, NOT OURS...AND FUCKING BRILLIANT THEY ARE TOO!!"

Which is both massively overcapitalized and entirely useless. Message them and ask nicely, it's worth a shot.

I don't usually rate Diplo at all, but I have to hand it to the man and his associates for giving Nina Sky one of the songs of the year in "Keep It Goin Louder", which also features Ricky Blaze who goes to prove autotune aint dead indeed. On first listen I was a little underwhelmed. Second listen - totally sucked in.

Seriously, Nina Sky need to get their album out this year!

Darned cockwombles.
Yet she is espousing the most annoying argument in the entire universe, seeming to think that no one else has ever said it before. Why oh why do people talk about things they know less than nothing about? *

Someone should play her "Caught Out There" and shut her stupid mouth for ever.

And it's always the same argument from white people who don't like any black music (except, somewhat inevitably, Motown, to prove "this has nothing to do with race") - "the lyrics are shit". Number one, it's music, not literature. Number two, 95 per cent of all indie songs are asinine beyond reason. Yet some of them have good tunes, so they're OK. See point one.

*Because she's 19 or whatever - fair enough.

you guys are totally missing the point. Look, when someone with the kind of peerless ability for lyric-writing as la roux tells us that r&b lyrics are empty, we have to listen to her, because she knows what she's talking about.

she is, after all, the one who wrote these little nuggets of profundity:

"We can fight our desires / But when we start making fires / We get ever so hot / Whether we like it or not"

"How far can you send emotions? / Can this bridge cross the ocean?"

"Let's go to war / To make peace / Let's be cold / To create heat"

What grates on me most about all of this is that she wouldn't really be where she is right now if she hadn't rode in on the dubstep remix that garnered her so much attention in the first place. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't dubstep as a genre owe quite alot to the scene she sees fit to trash so heartily?

Naturally she doesn't have to like R&B at all because everyone has their own tastes, but the level of obnoxiousness that must go into thinking you can trash an entire scene and movement that has been going for so long and that has been responsible for some of the more innovative musical moments of the 20th/21st century is beyond me.

Actually...I take it all back!

... Why can La Roux think she can criticize R&B, when clearly she wishes she could've been a Prince protege?

Oh, wait. She'd have to be both physically attractive and know how to sing. Or at least one of those.

Haha! Weird...I was just in the middle of writing about this for my blog when I saw your comment.

Absolutely love it, but it's a total headscratcher and it's the kind of thing that will totally divide people down the middle, those who think it's total genius and those who think it's utter shite. There will be no in between. It's got a definite "Whisper Song" vibe about it, but with even less to grab a hold of which is some accomplishment considering it's still totally captivating, which is mostly down to the oddball lyrics and the creepy intense closeness with which they're delivered.

I'm actually quite excited to see what Milian's new record with The Dream and Tricky Stewart is gonna be like. I feel like The Dream is gonna really come up with some next level shit for her. This song makes me feel more confident that just might happen.
