Shame about the technicals. Hasn't been great. A crap stream on a computer doesn't do it justice though.

The Skream & Benga hate is bad. DMZ's not about hate.

There's two sides to it, as I see it. You'd have thought they'd do a big apple set or something, but on the other hand, they booked Skream and Benga, knowing what they do now and expecting someone to compromise their sound goes against the DMZ vibe.

lol someone in the chat room just said that Skream and Benga are "trolling" DMZ.

This appeared literally before Skream and Benga even finished their set.
What a funny world we live in.

In fairness it did seem like the prodigy came on after Mala but its hardly breaking news now and Skream and Benga would have been the headline act for many.

Its was worth staying up to hear Pokes and officer anyway.

Crowd a people, gettin well gaddafi in here..

No. Being critical is always important. The DMZ veterans complain because they obviously care about the integrity of the night. If we all just accepted everything unconditionally, there wouldn't even be such a thing as music scenes or cultures to even care about. Music cultures are propelled and sustained by debate, and as far as I can tell, DMZ is one of the main forums for that debate as far as dubstep goes.

Not for nothing, but there does need to be a refusal of the Skream/Benga approach; if not by the rest of the whole first wave of dubstep, than the fans.

You know, for all the talk about how the jungle/D&B movement got corrupted at the end, it feels like the pioneers in that were a lot more responsible. Even grime bothered to do a fucking weird backroom meeting where they argued what to call their music. But aside from Kode and Loefah, I can't name one dubstep O.G. who's tried to maintain a quality and aesthetic, and even in their case, it's more based on abandoning dubstep for a new musical path...

Kode and now Loe have both moved away though haven't they.
Loefah at least is still releasing or being affiliated with a bit more of a classical sound.

As for other OGs, Pinch and Younx are definitely keeping with the original aesthetic.

Agreed.

There's a difference between being critical and lashing out in rage though. Some of the stuff people are saying is pretty bad. Their selection wasn't my thing at all and I've discussed it with various people but the blind hate that's popped up online is terrible.

Some of those Coki tunes are just as bad.

I think that with Cyrus, Tunnidge, Kryptic Minds, LX One, SP:MC and them lot, although their production levels are high and I used to get down to that style - I find the newer tracks are boring and it's all really similar.

I don't know if it was always like that and it's me that's changed!

Anyone know if the Kode9/James Blake set got recorded? I could do with more Kode9 sets in my life generally.

Really? No. From every time I listen/read Mala's words he seems oblivious to what's gone on in something he helped create. Not that he should feel like "THE DUBSTEP SCENE" is his to parent but... You know... I'd like him to be a little bit more involved. Because then you get this Skream/Benga tragedy, and I get the feeling that Mala's sitting in Pokes car going "I wonder why everyone got so mad?".

With Yunx that's so obvious it's amazing I didn't think of it; and admittedly, I barely pay attention to Pinch sometimes, so that's fair too. Bristol is strangely more tasteful with dubstep than the Croydon contingent.
