random thoughts -
the way ppl talk about pop music becoming very middle class, it makes me think of this stuff (not to be all 'only w/c ppl shd make music' or anything, cos i dont think that, a lot of my fave artists are m/c, and im very conscious about my attitude to this cos theres nothing worse than ppl who think posh/middle class-made music should be dismissed on principle)
i shd listen to it more but rinse seems boring now. shame theyre catering to this kind of stuff so much when the old rinse wouldve been finding djs to play the harder funky stuff (its like rinse circa 2004 playing loads of dubstep instead of grime). but who can blame them. theyre so very civilised now. time to move on. i dont know if live has the same cachet that rinse once had to really become the replcacement but who knows.
the kode 9 album has some cool production but the pitch bent synth thing - which he didnt exactly invent either - has been used by everyone now and for mr forward thinking to still be using it and so much, its peculiar. and spaceape is just dire. absolutely no gravitas with that guy. id prefer the album to be instrumental.
blackdown likes what he likes. and he likes this stuff. hes always aspired to more 'progressive' values or stuff thats for both head and heart in his music, so thats no surprise. i just think a lot of it, can seem contrived. it has no real purpose that i can sense. its just 'there'. music for musics sake. some of its interesting/novel, a lot of it just feels oddly pointless.
bassline is/was amazing. so much energy and great wriggling bass. dug out an old dj q mix cd i had. i love it. some of champions stuff makes me think of grimey bassline a bit, just not as manic.
can ppl stop using the word 'rude'. i knw weve all read energy flash but it just sounds silly. you cant go into black market or SOTU and ask for tunes that are rude or cheesy. no one in this kind of music wants to think of music they like/respect as being cheesy or rude. unless it really is rude. like miami bass. you dont get tags on boomkat saying 'rude' and 'cheesy' far as im aware. unless theres some new 'reynoldsian bass music' im unaware of. actually that would be prob be a good niche. blissblogbass. blissbloghouse. etc. muggsbass and muggshouse would be more eclectic.
