The amount of sneering going on is unbelievable. There is a tell us your demands so we can lecture you on how realistic they are vibe about but I believe they are in the minority, just happen to be shouting the loudest. There are a lot of "shy occupiers" ;) There has been support coming from a lot of unexpected places too, most people are fed up. Some just can't think beyond themselves.
The camp in Dublin is growing anyway which is the important thing and there are modest efforts underway in Cork and here in Galway. The author of that blog I am always linking to, David Malone, is speaking in Dublin Friday so I will be going back up at the weekend.

Not to me - everyone who disagrees with what they're saying (which includes those who want the status quo to remain and those who want it to change in the other direction) has a reason to sneer and belittle it as much as possible, the US right for example sees it as their chance to get revenge for all the sneering everybody else did about Tea Party demonstrations.

There's a whiff of chnage in the air. Didn't see today's Standard, but a friend told me the cover (on inflation) read almost like a Socialist Worker story.

Now the UK Uncut/Private Eye-led campaign against David Hartnett is finding echoes in the unlikeliest of places. Even the populist right are uncomfortable. Interesting times.

It was a little bit different. ANd then the FT story quoted by Polly Toynbee in the Guardian, expressing some sympathy with Occupy London.

How fucked up that we have evidence that the big Banks have been corrupt, yet our governments aren’t punishing those that have stolen from the pension funds.

Our Politicians are puppets for whoever pays them into office. That’s how fucked our system is. Their broken promises for change cant happen especially when the system is corrupt

And children who need a meal go without because our politicians won’t stop thinking of themselves long enough or how to win the next election, too look around them and see how bad it is.

You aren't helping Mr politician, things are getting worse here in the US, in Europe, Africa everywhere!

Im fuckn angry that Children are dying everyday.

There’s hard working people out there who do give a shit.

Problem is those with the power – government and big business, want this system to keep going. Its suits them

I don’t want to do business with these fuckers anymore. Do you?

if a company isn't giving back, stop buying from them. Buy a pair of shoes from TOMS (who give another pair to someone in need), look for companies that aren't paying lip service to community / charity

we are more powerful than the big business and politicians realize......we have the power to stop buying their products, banking with them.

your dollar, that you worked hard for, does have power.

together we can say – WAKE UP A-HOLES! The game is over.

- want to shout out to Occupy Wall Street groups around the world. You are waking up the world, including me. Please keep up the peaceful protest, you are making a difference

Good soundbite from a chilly Zuccotti Park..

“We knew this would be tough. We didn’t start this as a sort of summer of love, it’s the winter of discontent,”

I know it's Sky News and they're not gonna be neutral or whatever but the bias in that attack is appalling. Surely the news is supposed to report what is happening, not try and undermine those involved in whatever it is.

That was unwatchable

Much as I liked the protestor they were interviewing, there needs to be a stronger line of argument which throws the question back onto the accusers (such as the execrable Boulton). My choice would be a simple "Can you explain why 50 billion pounds of taxpayers' money was used to bail out private companies/banks?". Watch them splutter their way out of that one.

Yeah, protestor was likable and obviously able to see the huge holes in the arguments that were being presented to him - but he was unable to articulate the replies that would have totally destroyed those arguments. Of course, it's difficult, being put on the spot on tv like that and I'm not saying that I would have been able to either given the same situation. That's what makes it so unfair and such poor journalism, it's a completely unequal situation and there is no attempt whatsoever to learn anything, merely to bully.

True, no blame attached to him. It's just the more this happens, the more those on the fence conclude that the protestors are being spiteful, or something equally stupid. Having no concrete demands is fine, but the glaring example of an unfair system (the bailout) is not being drawn upon enough. There was a time when even the right-wing papers were turning against banks, and that time needs to return.
