Let's Talk About Ceps
Cyclists who charge on through red lights while pedestrians are crossing (I don't know what the law is on this, but I do know it's sufficiently stupid to make me angry).

I'd like to be unambiguously on the side of cyclists, and I felt like this even when I was in London and didn't have a bike myself, but so many of them do just behave as if the rules of the road apply to motor traffic only. To say nothing of the pricks who cycle on the pavement - I mean fair enough, some roads are so busy and dangerous you can understand cyclists not wanting to use them but even if you feel you have to go on the pavement then FFS have some consideration for pedestrians and get out of THEIR way, don't force them out of yours. A lot of the time though it's just snotty teenagers doing it to show how much of a shit they don't give about anyone else...

Holland might as well be in a different universe in terms of how pleasant it is to cycle in a city here.

As a cyclist, I totally agree as these people manage to skew the debate, so that rather than being about drivers we get "what about red light jumpers?" when the terms of discussion should be about agressive drivers, the use of mobile phones and hardly anybody behind a wheel knowing how to use a roundabout. By focusing on what cyclists do we are missing the larger point - cyclists get killed by motorists, so let's address the drivers' behaviour.

Well yes that's true, but at the same time there are cyclists who needless put themselves in danger by cycling like maniacs. You see people riding around central London listening to music on earphones, I mean fucksake.

None of this excuses careless motorists, obviously. It's not an either-or situation.

Darned cockwombles.
I love Modern Toss. Great office ones I've see include the guy saying to the bloke at the desk oppposite "Can I use your pencil sharpener?" and the other bloke replies "Haha brilliant, do you mind if I twitter that?"

Also liked the man saying to his boss "My wife is having a baby. It's not mine but I can I have a couple of weeks off anyway?"

Yeah, the 'Work' book is fabulous.

Tea, I'm guessing you already know about him, but if not, this guy - http://www.dagsson.com/ is along the same lines and arguably even funnier

I think I saw a book of that guy's work once. I thought a lot of them were just a bit transgressive-ergo-funny, if you get me, but one I really loved went "Why do you have a swastika tattooed on your forehead?" - "It's not a swastika, it's an ancient solar symbol", which for some reason I find hilarious.

I think it's good to address both behaviours, and also to call for cyclists to have to pass a test of some sort. I don't drive or cycle and I hate both sides, they're both equally to blame, they're all fucking idiots as far as I can see. From the pavement.

Yeah, I agree with you Sloane - would love to see some massive bike/car pile-up where lots of people who broke the highway code or whatever it's called died horrifically.
Anyway, that guy you're on about Baboon

I found a book of his stuff in my house the other day - it was all moldy and old and someone must have left it there years ago. The only explanation I had was that Ollie/Tea had left it there but I completely forgot about it until this thread. And I guess this also reveals that Ollie didn't leave it there. Wonder where it came from then...
Addendum - some of it was quite funny.

Yeah, not mine, though it's the kind of thing I might own.

I remember lending you my book about ninjas but I would never let that get lost in someone's toilet because to this day it's still by far the funniest book I've ever read.

Cunt Of The Day:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...10025/Gina-Rinehart-attacks-jealous-poor.html

"Gina Rinehart, a mining magnate worth an estimated £19 billion, has advised those jealous of the wealthy to "spend less time drinking or smoking and socialising, and more time working" in order to be successful.

Miss Rinehart, 56, also rounded on Australia's "class warfare", insisting it was billionaires such as herself who were doing more than anyone to help the poor.

She warns that Australia risks following European economies ruined by "socialist" policies, high taxes, and excessive regulation.

Miss Reinhart stated there was "no monopoly" on becoming a millionaire.

In May Miss Rinehart was declared the richest woman in the world, after building upon an estimated £13 billion mining empire inherited from her late father, Lang Hancock, in 1992."

God, the Guardian can be so fucking worthy and joyless. The other day some ninny was writing in it complaining that Gangnam Style was "perpetuating negative stereotypes about East Asian men" - because the purpose of a pop video should be to promote positive stereotypes, presumably. Well I dunno about you but when I think of South Korea I *invariably* think of slightly chubby men in their 30s having a disco party on a bus or pretending to ride a horse.

Fucksake.

Yeah, the article is a bit rubbish and attempting to make a square peg fit a round hole, though the general point about the media treatment of east Asian people would hold if applied in other contexts**. Still can't believe that that show Banzai was ever thought fit for broadcast, for example (ah, apparently in the US, Fox were forced to drop it after 6 episodes - didn't know that).

Which led me to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Aoki
Sarah Silverman is awful....

I can see how it would be problematic if it was a white guy - or, say, a Japanese guy for that matter - pretending to be South Korean. But Psy is himself South Korean! Is it really the place of a British journalist to get all pious about a Korean making a pop video that lampoons Korean culture?

I used to quite enjoy Banzai. I bet there's plenty of stuff on Japanese TV that's infinitely worse.

Oh FFS...

In the interview, Silverman explained that a friend had advised her on how to avoid jury duty by writing a racial slur on the selection form, "something really inappropriate, like, 'I hate chinks'." However, Silverman said that she ultimately decided that she did not want to be thought of as a racist and instead wrote, "I love chinks."

"I'm not racist! Some of my best friends are niggers!"

Could be straight from a Curb Your Enthusiasm script.

Nope, I'd agree with that - I didn't really see what was bad about the video anyways.

As to Banzai, it was the fact it was specifically made for a Western audience using lots of Japanese stereotypes that was the problem.
