When I went ASDA they had nothing at all except some beetroot and some actual turnips. No dried goods, no cans no other fruit or veg. The bigger the supermarket the more likely it is to get rinsed cos they have car parks and people can load up. The Turkish shops are holding up well and so are a lot of Chinese shops. Even the corner shops are ok. Can get canned tomatoes and toilet roll and pasta.

I mean they had everything here, chickens, rice, loads of fruit and veg.

Depends on the time and day and all sorts of other stuff. Although people can't stockpile forever. At some point it has to stabilise presumably.

This stuff does help demonstrate that we are all addicted to shopping. Me included of course. Doesn't matter what it is. An onion. A jar of pickled red cabbage. Anything will do.

Tons of lentils and pulses at South Asian shops. Shops like Londis often have loads of basics that the supermarkets have been cleaned out of - it's bizarre

Farm shops doing massive business where they exist, mostly cos they dont have restaurant customers any more and have to shift shedloads of dairy

Well there's clearly some hysteria and it's being magnified by news and social media, but maybe things are business as usual in a lot of places still, particularly outside london

Unless you want to posit a conspiracy theory. I'm up for that. Supermarkets colluding with government to make it appear there are shortages.

At the asda I went to there's no big car park.
Not sure about conspiracy, just that people have lost the ability to think. Panic loop, but it's definitely fuelling Boris Johnson's Churchill wank fantasy as well

Dark thought - is this crazy resistance to giving medical staff tests, as well as no proper protective equipment, in any part opportunism to degrade the nhs even further cos after this, *no-one* will want to work there? The idea of wanting to become a nurse will seem nuts.

Because it's prima facie inexplicable, the lack of testing

I don't think I could go that far, yet. It does seem wilfully perverse, destructive and illogical.

Could be the end of time. Not out of the question. Revelation time. I'll look into it for you.

I dunno. I do think there's much more going on than just that, not least monumental incompetence, but the disaster capitalism handbook is writing new chapters in 2020

You mean you have a sense that something is being prepared behind the scenes?

It certainly feels that way.

A change in the relationship between citizen and state for one. A change in the economic model. Perhaps also a change in industry and production.
