Yeah, I agree. I talked about this in another thread. I want to see the most insane environments possible in games. The stuff that obliterates physics.

bit you can do that and keep an ideal of photorealism visually. i thought he means cartoons are better than photos?

it's not that cartoons are better it's there's more of a sense of imagination and it tends to age better than things that strife for realism do

don't even have to go back super far Metal gear solid 1 looks like ass in comparison to castlevania symphony of the night

This is true. This is why Nintendo games age better than most. Super Mario Sunshine still looks great, for example.

i take issue with the where cause it's giving off this sense like it can still be found in one particular spot or thing that's done now and i've heard enough about the death of monoculture the avant garde is probably happening right this second in places and ways that alot of people on here will definitly not recognize and write off as "student music"

its fucking MEMES like i was saying! maybe liminal spaces wasn't the best example. i was mainly thinking more the stuff that has to do with morphology / bending recorded reality. similar to what barty was talking about in the harlquinn. identity and image as highly malleable, literally and figuratively. that's the successor to old modernist stuff, the only difference is i don't know of many people now who realize its not just purely a joke.

re: avant garde today ofc

'internet music' is the dismissive term i favour nowadays

sorry if that sounds glib but honestly am i wrong? the worlds gotten weird and pulled inside in ways that even the most constantly on the pulse Adam Curtis types couldn't predict

hard to say i guess. no need to assume it will come from the west at all now the whole world is joined together

Isn't that how it's always been? It's not as though the entire world was fixated on Joyce when he published Ulysses. People were doing stuff all over the place and Bely had written Petersburg years before. It's obviously intensified and become even more fragmented now, but we're looking back as though the avant -garde was the handful of artists who ended up being canonised and nothing was happening outside of that select group.

dissensus is the only avant-garde. there's nothing outside these walls. it's just tumbleweed and boarded up shops.
