biscuists and hmg say we are going to be locked in our rooms forever?
How else do you read this?
We're not going to be given the all clear, they have us where they want us. Easier to achieve net zero, less able to protest and gather, the disease is merely a justification. It'll be hard for any government to give this up. They will need to be made to unlock, or they will need to be removed.

like how are we going to deal with entire countries that have completely opposite levels of antibody/vaccination/immunity without extra social controls?

governments know they'll have actual social unrest and rebellion if businesses stay closed, go under and millions more people are unemployed. they don't want that (and they'll also never do UBI to try and manage them), so of course they want to get life back on track as soon as possible. but since they are huge bureaucracies, they are huge fuckups at making that happen. it's less a grand conspiracy than gross incompetence.

Don't go out and get drunk. Protect the NHS.
Don't even think about flying abroad for a holiday. Protect the vulnerable.
Polling stations are closed for your safety.
Our freedoms are our weakness.

I'm sure governments would like nothing more than for you to go out drinking, fly abroad and go to polling stations. why wouldn't they?

how do you know
Just boring old probability I guess.
I don't trust the government either, I know they want us weak and divided etc etc but also they want us working hard and making money and stuff. It wasn't like there was just about to be a revolution before covid was it? It didn't save Boris from being put up against a wall. It's just occam's razor says they want a load of happy people going to work, paying tax, self-medicating at weekends and blaming immigrants if something goes wrong.

why would any government want mass business bankruptcies and even more massive unemployment, leading to an angry, rebellious populous? that makes no sense, and our rich overlords wouldn't stand for it because they wouldn't be making their billions off our labor and buying. as rich said, they want us working, spending money and cluelessly contented. they're too incompetent to make that happen on short order.

it's just not an intriguing, sexy storyline. the world is a lot more mundane and duller than some people think.

By applying wild interpretations to very human problems we attempt to graft agency onto a form of chaos that can never be fully controlled

Wealth likes chaos as much as stability because it can feed an offering or 2 to the mob and move on

my guess is that Leo is wrong and that there is no going back to normal. I think that the stagehands are shifting the scenery around as we speak and when this is over the world we return to will be quite different. that's my guess. but of course none of us have the feinest idea. how could we? we're nothing people.

There's no point arguing with him. You're saying what you think is likely... he's describing how he wants the world to work.
