I dunno what happened with Burial. The magic died. I can't get back to the place where the tunes filled me with wonder. They're this odd facsimile now.

It's hard for me to watch these songs now as an adult. When I was a kid, they seemed packed with so much MEANING. Now I feel exiled from that land. I remember it. I can look into it from the periphery. But I can't go there anymore. I just see guitars and drums and bass and mics. The magic isn't there any more.

I wonder if the older crowd (k punk et al) responded more intellectually to burial whereas for the young he was more of a romantic melancholy prospect?

No doubt he was both things to many people in both groups.

Sort of followed on the heels of "weak become heroes" and stuff like that.

The dawning of a miserable century

Maybe. The older lot will have actually been to the raves Burial was too young to go to.

it's called growing up. I thought Black Sabbath was frightening demon spawn when I was a kid, now I too "feel exiled from that land."

It doesn't happen with everything though. I still find the Lord of the Rings films pretty transportive and I first saw them at like ten years old.

He’s an exquisite bits artist. He’s an artist who knows his obsessions but doesn’t always know how to realise them but occasionally does and it’s glorious. Awkward and fragile and embarrassing and transcendent. Everyone knows this so you don’t need to talk about it. Don’t agree about post untrue being shit... come down to us, nightmarket, end of rival dealer, some bits of truant

Yeah, I sometimes think those promo mixes Kode9 did for the albums are better than the albums themselves.

I don't think it's all shit. There's just something missing. The palette becomes too familar. The production too slick.

Yeah I agree. A great DJ mix is a higher art form than any album imo for this reason. It seemed in the later EPs kode9 didn’t bother to pick and encourage him to extrapolate... just allowed the winding twenty minutes of vignettes

Luke loves to tell me how predictable I am. Loves to pop my balloons

i have to keep you at exactly the right level of inflation. too much and you might supplant me and my kingdom will be gone. too little and you will become despondant and boring.

Anyone else into this stuff? Some of the better dance music around atm.

this is a bit like corpseys opening post on his thread asking for brain improving videos for clever people like him. full of innocent guileless optimism.
