none of the benefits? zero? dude, you're out and about and you're touching door handles that have been touched by a hundred other people, you're touching railings, you're touching a million things with germs...then you touch you face, whip your nose, etc. don't tell me a mask doesn't slow the potential spread of germs that are on your own hands. not taking about airborne germs.

Hmm good point: maybe there needs to be some sort of breathable halfway house mask for the outdoors...or belt holsters for soapy water hand baths.

Visors better for outdoors.

Relatedly, was watching a Select Committee meeting of our top medical bods yesterday - Vallance, Whitty et al - and they said they didn't yet know the relative importance of the various transmission pathways.

Has there been verified infections from surfaces yet? Even examples of outside transmissions have been rare

If you need a breathable mask for outdoors just get some valved ffp3s. They're a lot better than cloth masks although some will make you look like you're about to strip asbestos

What drives mixed biscuits? We need to subject this boy to intrusive and thorough analysis
You mean why does he want everyone in the world to get C19 and then die and then for their deaths to be recorded as due to some kind of other underlying condition?
It is a strange one for sure.

it's intriguing. since i started following Peter Hitchens on twitter it's seemed less idiosyncratic though. there's a whole community of people who want everyone in the world to get C19 and then die and then for their deaths to be recorded as due to some kind of other underlying condition.

That's fair enough - I was worried you were going down this "masks starve healthy people of oxygen" conspiracy theory route.

I get migraine onset from my cloth mask and know that I'm quite sensitive to air quality (I can immediately tell if a room has stagnant air in it), so I guess it's got to be the oxygen, no?

I did run a test with my cloth mask and blood pressure monitor: blood pressure progressively decreased, meaning...???

As far as risk homeostasis goes, masks seem to be emboldening sick people to mingle as there were a few enthusiastic coughers on the tube...they will leak particles anyway while also exacerbating their own condition.
