Okay now we're talking some real shit. The racism towards traveller communities is completely accepted in this country, even down south, and people can openly talk shit about them without any recompense

Labour will never oppose it because Keir wants the middle ground voters and the p*key/g*po (apologies for the slurs) rhetoric is so prevalent here that it would actively cause problems for Labour if they opposed it

yeah I mean you see even, for instance, the university educated intelligentsia mostly remaining shtum about this, because they cannot figure out if the roma are brown or white in their weird oppressed vs oppressor category, as if it ever mattered. If you took that logic to its ultimate conclusion, many Arabs, Iranians and Turks could be considered white in pigmentation.
It's why I'm a firm believer that british ethnocentrism makes the racism in this country quite different to the US, which for all intents and purposes is more a capital W white supremacist society. But Americans don't need to be jingoist in the same way (thats not to say they aren't ruthlessly nationalistic sometimes its just different) as they are the world imperialist superpower. There will always be some form of stabbed in the back ideology in Britain. We can criticise alf garnett for not really parodying successfully but this dichotomy between rural trad anglocentrism and the americanised inner cities has always played out in UK society.
