Mentalism. What is it, and where did the name come from? Ive seen a few posts in the "modern DnB is rubbish" thread referring to early 90s dnb. so, where did the name come from, and what did it sound like? then theres this at boomkat which seems to include some breakcore and acid. How do...

    Did Phil Spector do it?

Teh jury deliberates.... The foreman of the jury in Phil Spector's murder trial told the judge today (Sept. 18) that the panel is at an impasse of 7 to 5, but he did not indicate which way it was leaning. "At this time I don't believe that anything else will change the positions of the...

    Favorite vocalist

for me its simple, and ive had this "list" floating in my head for a time: Male: Frank Sinatra Elvis Presley Female: Ella Fitzgerald Grace Slick These are just the voices that do it for me. Something about Grace's voice that i find angelic and transporting. Not many can do that.

IDM? i think there were many people that proudly said they made "IDM". Although, i still think that was one of the dumbest names in music. Coolest name not yet used? Loungecore

How long until artists stop releasing albums entirely?

Ive never bought an mp3 either. Im terrible at backing things up, and have lost 2 harddrives of music, some downloaded, some ripped. Also, i like the idea of my music to be tangible. But, i wonder if anyone would pay for this: "You'd pay, say, $19.95 a month, and the music will come anywhere...

How long until artists stop releasing albums entirely?

I, too, dont see the album as completely disappearing ever. Its an artistic medium that people will always want to use. But as a product to push sales, and a music industry tool, i can see it dying soon. Especially in pop music. The creation of the LP changed rock music forever, and in that...

How long until artists stop releasing albums entirely?

Im in the process of reading a great article on Rick Rubin, and it occurred to me that it cannot be long until artists give up on the notion of the album entirely. Or at least of an album released all at once. Obviously iTunes, and song-by-song downloading are the main culprits, but the seeds...

    Abortion

Thats an interesting way of putting it, and i dont think, on the surface, i have any problems with that. I am a proponent of enforced sterilization, or at least restricted reproduction. Some interesting, if not humourous, input on this from Chris Korda (of Ghostly International and...

    proto dubstep

So i created a Pandora channel for jungle and dubstep a little bit ago, and the results get more and more interesting as they increase their electronic library. Heard a a track for the first time today that reminds me a lot of Vex'd style dubstep. Balk Acid - Speedy J from the "A Shocking...

    Abortion

Ahh, my word choice was a bit poor. I did not mean to imply any sort of "plan gone awry". More of an "accident" than a "mistake," then? I would not claim that anyone has "absolute rights" to anything, except perhaps their thoughts. For now. But I dont think that I was saying that, or that the...

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

...to the release of the album? In the context of the article, it says that its being released, but not as a single.... this makes little sense to me. So, in what way is releasing a song as a setup different than a single?
