    Funky/London/UK House

Cooly G's release on Hyperdub is 'Pick of the Week' in the Guardian Guide today. 'As dubstep begins to resemble, quite literally, a boy's club - one that pongs of a pungent mix of spliff and locker rooms - Hyperdub, the label behind the murky, underwater two-step of Burial, ups the ante once...

Deep reggae like 'Heart of the Congos'....

Just came across this on Youtube Mundell and Pablo in the hills, the 2nd tune with Mundell singing to just Pablo accompanying him on the melodica is absolutely brilliant.

    Unfortunate names

One of the contacts at a solicitor's firm we deal with is called 'Yippy Ho' which amused me, if she was called 'Yappy' instead it would be even better. One of the gardeners we use has on his invoice 'Please make payment to James S. Dick', surely someone should have pointed it out to him.

The Africa Must Be Free set produced by Augustus Pablo is exceptional, and 'Jah Fire' produced by Jammy is also very good http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=107814&highlight=107816 Mundell hasn't got a massive catalogue as he died fairly young if I remember correctly. There is a nice...

    World's Greatest Female Singers II

What about Mahalia Jackson? <- damn, and I liked the Sam Cooke version of summertime, this is amazing The power with control, and the emotion she could generate are pretty unique, and 'real'. With reference to your list, some of those have had the soul coached out of them and are more...

Finally picked up a Pole album - Pole 2, and it's fantastic. Keep on going back to the Walkmen album, and enjoying the most recent Deerhunter. I seem to be in the mood for guitar music at the moment, the latest Wolf Parade has also sneaked back into the car and the Tv On the Radio back...

Deep reggae like 'Heart of the Congos'....

Good mixture of vocals and dubs on there. His productions for Hugh Mundell, Te Track, Jacob Miller etc tend to get overlooked a little in favour of the dubs.

I meant the Half Moon comp ' Artist: GLORY DOMINION POWER MAJESTY Title: Half Moon Productions Label: PK RECORDS (UK) "An astounding set drawing from the seventies and early-eighties heyday of this Toronto-based reggae label, when it played host to stars like Augustus Pablo, Stranger Cole...

Deep reggae like 'Heart of the Congos'....

It's fantastic. The vocal versions to many of the dubs are on a compilation called 'Keep The Pressure Down' which is a must have. The PK compilation is worth a look, recorded in Canada with a lot of Jamaican expats, it's got an amazing sound. Hugh Mundell also is quite deep and mournful roots...
