trying to DL off the rinse site is a disaster. if i can connect at all, it then says the DL time is 3 or 4 hours! i do subscribe via US itunes, but there are hardly ever any new shows anymore (although two popped up yesterday). oddly, i just checked US itunes and rinse podcasts are no longer listed, so i don't understand how i'm still occasionally getting new shows.

I emailed them a few months back because there was no mention of the frequency on the website anywhere. It's now tucked away in small print at the bottom of the home page.

Officially they are Rinse106.8FM then.

so...has anything much changed since they went legit? i don't notice a big difference, though i only listen to a few podcasts every once in a while. i hear scratcha reading local news on occasion, which is kind of humorous.

just their voices and mannerisms....

got this in an email update from CMU daily.
RINSE FM CRITICISED FOR SWEARY SONGS IN DAYTIME
Ah, you see, you go from being a pirate radio station to being a legit community broadcaster and not only do you have to start filling out forms for media regulator OfCom and paying money to rights owners for the music you play, you have to stop saying 'fuck' in prime time.

OfCom has upheld a complaint against Rinse FM after it received a complaint from a parent that said her twelve year old son had been exposed to five uses of the 'f' word in songs played between 2pm and 5pm one afternoon in March.

Rinse FM apologised for playing the sweary songs in daytime, and stressed that the incident occurred in the early days of the station's legit broadcasts, and that new systems at the organisation would stop it from happening again.

Nevertheless, OfCom said the community station had breached its rules and upheld the complaint. I'm not sure what that means. Possibly someone from OfCom goes round and tells bosses to "sort the fuck out" in a loud angry voice.

to be fair, it isnt really cool imo. i wouldnt wanna see some sub porno thing or something with lots of swearing on the tv pre-watershed, same for radio really. its not that hard to do radio edits, esp these days, its much simpler than it used to be.

There is no radio watershed afaik, though I expect Rinse probably want to keep their nose clean regardless.

I agree with you though I think the tone of thread and people who make complaints after waiting around counting f words does my head more.

All about pride and egos
tbh I don't really know what's wrong with the word 'fuck' on daytime radio. I'm not really sure who or what is being protected. Nevertheless, I guess if there is a standard with legit radio stations and Rinse FM wants to be legit, then they have to bow to that standard. It's things like this that initially made me worried about their going legit. I have a feeling they'll keep getting more and more safe until they aren't interesting anymore. Mostly because surely there will always be another pirate that is doing what they aren't?
