Dunno, I mean if you and your mates got out without being badly hurt then that sounds fine to me. Too much of a "fuck yes get stuck in" mentality might have made things worse...
Also true, but I think that that was by luck. I mean maybe if I had some sort of fight training and had mentally stepped back and dispassionately observed what was happening I would have recognised that the right thing to do was to show a clean pair of heals and I would have done roughly the same thing (perhaps with slightly more panache). What I'm trying to say is that I think it's good to know that you did the righ thing for the right reason, not just by luck, so you know that next time you will do it right too.
In general if I studied self-defence it would be for the reason in the name - to defend myself from harm. It's not like I wanted to hurt those guys and I don't really want that now (though I think Aidan and Max probably do - and I don't think they are wrong to think that, I'm not trying to claim any moral high ground here).
I think on this occasion, the way that he went straight for the bottle, like he was absolutely trying to hit Aidan with a bottle, to do serious damage - to me that's not a fight you want to be in. I have no doubt in my mind that if he had had a knife he would have used it. Maybe his girlfriend just dumped him or he'd lost his job or whatever but he wanted to get his revenge on the world and right then and there we represented the world.
