A Dummy's Guide To ____

In terms of P Money. I've worked on and off with him since starting out so will let others post tunes. I did a two hour talk podcast with him recently that will give you a window into his mind.

I think this was P Money's biggest track

Never really been into this grime MC x wobble style, although I remember seeing P Money, Blacks and some others in Bristol spitting over Chase N Status style beats and actually making that style of dubstep more palatable to me. Live, its just pure energy and hype. Bit too much for me sitting in my room listening on my headphones.

Enjoying this interview Elijah, directly relevant to ∆ that stuff ∆

Would it be accurate to say that Kano was one of the most obviously garage-influnced grime MCs? Maybe I've only got a partial knowledge of garage MCing but I connect his style more to the 2-step era, all sinuous, sing-songy and rapid flows.

Cheers guys.

On Kano he is def Garage, Hip Hop, Jungle & Dancehall in one. He leans on different angles for different tunes

This one is a real good example of his talents.

This one is more Jungle style MC wise, but obviously more hip hop musically.

With P Money he has told me before he hasn't ever listened to much American music. Style is more Jungle, Garage, and as he is 2nd Gen you can say more influenced by the MCs that came before him.

These couple of tracks are him doing over peoples styles.

Aside from all the classic grime posted, he was one of the few grime mc that spat on hip hop well, here's him spraying over some classic rap beats

Also was just thinking that Ghetto had basically the same flow as Kano but has more of a Rascal esque piercing voice. And I could be wrong but is this why a lot of ppl hate Ghetto? It's grating, perhaps, to have that flow done in that hysterical voice.

Wasn't it Wiley who sent for Ghetto with "you're just an angry Kano"

and then Tinchy who called him a 'Kano rebore'

Whytea, to embed just post the embed code that you can access under videos on YouTube via the "share" button.

Thanks to you and to everyone else for their help in this thread - YOU'RE THE REAL MVPs! :')

So been listening to a bit of this new Kendrick album, and obviously I'm seeing it compared to Outkast all over the shop, so...

Please school Me on OUTKAST

P.S. I've heard ''Hey Ya'' before, thanks.

Not Outkast, but watered down less offensive kind of soundalike that dated badly, because you wanted to be schooled

Aquemni was the first thing I listened to of theirs. It's still an amazing record. I think it gives you a good sense of their vision and creative breadth. As UKman, I found a lot of the references completely confused me at the time, still do in some ways. I just put it on again, and I almost get synesthesia from it, listening makes me recall the smell of the booklet as it was held close, me puzzling over the lyrics. I get the sense of a group at the height of their powers experimenting musically but still making incredibly tight, commercially appealing music. It actually reminds me of Stevie Wonder in this regard. And the skits are actually good, and add to overall Southern feel of the album.

You must know this, right? The collision of styles is incredible.

If Kendrick is this good, I will be very very pleased indeed.

There was an amazing primer mix by Killer Mike's touring DJ that covered the Dungeon Family via their Organized Noize productions. I suggest that because A) I don't enjoy Outkast B) I think Goodie Mob is incredibly superior C) Yes I'm a cliche contrarian D) There's a lot of Dungeon associates who get left behind like Mike used to be before the Run The Jewels resurgence, Cool Breeze, Society Of Soul, Witchdoctor, Backbone, the less discussed connections between them and early Atlanta crunk like Youngbloodz, Ludacris & Jim Crow...

the best non-DF thing that ON did really was mista - i used to love that album.

as far as outkast, the first album is actually their best - theyve never been better as rappers, or as a proper duo, even if they still continued to make good albums.

big boi has been embarassing since outkast split btw. i dont care how many apologists try and stick up for him. hes been floundering.

I mean, he's been actually rapping consistently and without making his appearances 'event records', nor has he been responsible for a "Come Together" cover. Grass is always greener, y'know?

Thanks, y'all. I'm grabbing Aquemini as I type. I just looked it up on Wikipedia; I never got that the title combines Aquarius and Gemini.

Outkast - Player's Ball (Remix) (1993)

I remember hearing this on a Westwood show way back when and loving it. Obviously also 'Ms. Jackson' and 'Hey Ya!' were huge hits during my schooldays.
