cold and humid these days. prompted by my girl I started thinking about putting together some dj sets or maybe getting on one of those online radios. recalled I never really did that outside of maybe 5th grade of elementary school (I try to remember what was the selection) and one or two random occasions upon friends invitation.
and here I am, listening back to recordings of my old live sets from 2017-2020 back when I made more dance music, to review the past situation, how it used to be to socially present such stuff

every Saturday night I go to my best friend's house and we have a takeaway curry and gossip and watch YouTube videos
recently her feed has been polluted by some idiot DJ called funny chef or something and she clicked play but I bitched and moaned about his shit selection and she had to turn it off when she conceded that he is all flash with no substance
tonight we watched some of this video and we agreed that SELECTION rules over technical skills
Pablo's son just plays a whole side of an LP ( The Prince Philip double that might be the best re-release of the year ) while various dudes step up to the mic and sweet talk us
then the Roots Ambassador demonstrates zero technique and the Pablo kid has to step in and fiddle with the EQ
the elder dread chats over the dead air with what my friend described as "a bedtime story" voice
this is amazing!
a bunch of people playing nice tunes and enjoying the vibe
I was amused when my friend pointed out that the Pablo kid and Jah Youth, the "Roots ambassador" are both wearing the same shirt - coincidence?
my friend has always been a bit more observant than me - at one point she pointed out that Pablo junior has double jointed fingers and I had to wonder if that makes playing the Melodica easier... ( edit: she actually said "he has weird fingers" but she soon corrected that at my insistence because I've been on a EDI / DEI course so I know all about inclusitivity and acceptance )
at the beginning of the video some guy holds up the album cover of the Prince Phillip LP and my friend exclaimed "he looks like that cunt Elon Musk" and I shuddered at the thought of the harm that that idiot could do to roots reggae
edit: I'm probably banned from that shop now?
edit: a highlight for me is when "jah youth" plays the Winston Francis studio one tune

this was one of the tunes my "mix monkey" told me he could not mix from rhythm & sound into this
no problem for jah youth, just smash it on the deck with no regard for continuity or technique while the elder dread with the 'bedtime story" voice subtly takes the piss
