It's somehow a fascinating thing to watch in all it's morbidity. That the "leading power" of the West has chosen a figure like Trump as its president makes it obvious: The West is on it's last legs. However, as I have written already elsewhere, despite the fact that some Westeners themselves will be delighted with the prospect of a fallen "West", whatever follows will be way more crappy.

you'd imagine that that the chaos and corruption is now so prevalent and dangerous that it awakens a complacent populous out of its slumber to become more engaged in righting the ship.

but that would require a reversal of what we're discussing above RE: so much chaos making people numb.

a boy can dream....

So in terms of government shutdowns and tens of thousands of civil servants not getting paid, the system was set up like this intentionally, right? In order to get opposition partiesto bow to a presidents' demands. Because while I can understand employees might get the sack a full year without a top White Office official to sign off on their paychecks, the Americans seem to throw the baby out with the bathwater after a few days. Bear in mind that my local parliament hasn't sat in two years and while government projects have been cancelled as far as I know no civil servants have been fired.

I don't totally understand what you're saying there.
Anyway, Cohen has got to be taking the piss out of Trump, he's suing him for wages which he feels should have been paid to him for the period during which (I think) he had flipped over like a dead fish and was happily singing like a canary about his erstwhile (or not) employer's sins. His argument seems to be that they had a previous agreement that the Trump organisation promised to reimburse him for any work or losses he incurred as a result of working for them - and that this should be included, even if the work he was doing was working against them.

government shutdowns are a bargaining chip which, luckily, don't get used very often. also luckily, no civil servants get fired, they get furloughed and receive their back pay when the government eventually reopens. this situation is slightly different from the one we were discussing about no one caring, though.

most Americans don't care about shutdowns unless they are affected personally. for example, one of the reasons this last shutdown backfired on trump was because the department of agriculture closed down, which meant large farmers in the midwest were unable to receive their federal farm subsidy checks, which meant they couldn't buy tons of seed and equipment, which meant they wouldn't be able to plant on time to get maximum yields or meet their own employee payrolls, etc. since those farmers tend to be conservatives based in conservative states, the conservative GOP reps and senators from those areas took a lot of heat from their angry constituents, and they in turn gave that heat to the White House. then trump folded.

so, some people cared, spoke up and got action. trump's mistake was taking a position (shutting down government ) that negatively affected a core part of his own base.

So - just announced, Manafort didn't quite get the recommended 24 years - he got 47 months. His lawyers argued that he was "unfairly targeted" - such a load of bollocks, they investigated him and found he'd committed countless crimes and then he made a deal and tried to cheat that. If you're guilty of crimes then you're fair game to be investigated (in fact even if you haven't) and arguing that you shouldn't have been investigated should in no way mitigate your sins. Fuck. What a joke.

One of many comments. People stealing one hundred dollars get tougher sentences. Also the judge saying "You have lived an otherwise blameless life" while he is awaiting sentencing from another court crosses the line from being a pisstake to an outright lie.

I will never feel bad/or forgive the D's for creating this divide. They completely manufactured “Trump is racist” all bc he kicked HRC’s ASS. Country should be a non stop all-American block party with 45 in office, instead we’re in civil war because of lies created by sore losers

Come on Wyatt, it’s not because they don’t like Trump. They are HIDING CRIMES. Why is it taking so long to get there?

Fuck!

US President Donald Trump's campaign did not conspire with Russia during the 2016 election, a summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report says.

The allegation clouded the first two years of Mr Trump's presidency and his allies see the report's finding as a boost to his re-election chances.

But Attorney General William Barr's summary is inconclusive as to whether Mr Trump obstructed justice.

So what now? Does this mean he's clear to run again next year?

Having repeatedly described the inquiry as a witch hunt, Mr Trump said it was an "illegal takedown that failed".

Ha, but of course he is.

he's definitely emboldened and will probably become even more assertive and aggressive. we can only hope the southern district of NY moves ahead with investigations and charges unrelated to Russian collusion, like the family business and foundation. still a glimmer of hope that don jr. gets nailed for something in their shady past.

Its not good, but I don't think this is over yet.

The question is whether or not the report gets released. So far all we have is a Trump acolyte spinning it in the most positive way possible. This was always gonna happen as they have control of the narrative. If he was completely cleared the report would have been put out immediately.

Well it is, unambiguously, a pretty positive result for Trump. There must be other stuff in it they're keeping back, for now, but this is a huge propaganda win for him almost regardless of what else the report contains.

Trump will get a second term. The Dems will choose an identity-politics obsessed candidate without any knowledge of the economy. It's all set.
