I'm sure this must have come up in other threads, but
One of the clearest markers distinguishing early disco, disco proper, from later disco and especially the post-disco early 80s is the rise of dub aesthetic + technique. See a Levan remix ca. 78-79 vs one a couple years later.
And from cutting edge dance music (and I guess guitar music, via post-punk) to the mass proliferation of dub approach in popular music generally to the point where it's so ubiquitous as to be part of the DNA (like, yes, 130 bpm, or what have you)
