We watched (yet another) documentary yesterday about a dodgy doctor prescribing various drugs for money. A number of parents grew suspicious cos their kids were visiting a doctor 400km away every week and eschewing the local guy who had been treating their family for decades.

The feds were already looking at her cos she had a number of suspicious prescribing patterns - seems a lot were going there to score a combination of threedrugs which I wasn't aware but which is apparently a) popular and b) potentially lethal - basically an opioid, a downer and a muscle relaxant. Specifically in this case they were getting Oxycontin, Xanax and I think the last was called Soma - which if memory serves is the name of the drug in Brave New World.

Anyway 14 (that's fourteen!) clients of the surgery had died and this nutter showed no remorse, or certainly no change of strategy.

What I couldn't really understand was the feds were determined to get her for homicide ie murder. Which to me can't be right, she was obviously totally reckless and didn't care if people died. But I'm sure she wasn't trying to kill people, how would that help her?

And this is what I don't understand with US prosecutors, is their job to convict people for the crimes they committed, or is it to just go for the highest sentence they can, regardless of whether they truly believe it is the crime that was committed?

I'm sure if @sufi wanted to, he could bash out a bit of code that could detect whenever one of @catalog's posts contains spelling that's worse than some threshold value, and automatically make that post appear in this thread, regardless of which thread he was replying to.
