It's all a sideshow afaic. I'm LESS inclined to like Kate Bush cos she codes as middle class, drama student music. I *want* to hate her. Silly overblown deliberately weird theatrical art school shit. Panto shit. But the power of the choons overwhelmed my objections.
My reaction to music is very instinctive, many would say superficial. I don't listen to the lyrics much. I don't care about the videos. I don't know the words to any Kate Bush song. The videos actually get in the way. Same thing with Bowie - his costumes and all that, don't give a shit, if anything it predisposes me against him. But he did have classic songs.
Actually, since the ineffable aspects of music are what are really crucial, I'd argue that caring about anything else except that stuff is the truly superficial move.
So stick that in your arse
