The young Asian kids are changing it a bit theyre used to staying out all night in Korea and Hong Kong. In Auckland when I lived there he only thing open past midnight were Korean resturaunts

Plus the booze is dirt cheap compared to the UK in many countries (I'm thinking of Spain rather than Sweden).

this could be the gist: the UK decides to take money by massively inflating taxes on booze and fag. whereas everyone else just lets you do it 24/7. and are the health differences consequential in any way? doubt it. altho america does have an obesity problem i believe

This is almost literally true, if you compare the washed-out colour tones on, I dunno, The Bill or something to pretty much any American TV. The Aussie soaps are the same (edit: bright and saturated like American TV, I mean) - I remember channel-surfing as a kid and realizing I could instantly tell if I'd happened across Neighbours, even without recognising any of the cast or hearing anyone speak.

The thing that’s funny about this is that sunlight isn’t that color in the rest of the world, it’s much warmer, usually 5000K but sometimes getting close to 4000, the “daylight” bulb is the last vestige of colonialism, you see this rooms with blue lightbulbs and you go, aha, the continent has played another trick on us.

I think the 3am finish is why you end up at so many afterparties in Glasgow. You're in your best mode at that hour and you don't want to go home so you end up in a flat and before you know it you've wasted a day because it's a lunchtime taxi home. Whereas if things could run until 6am you would just stay at the venue and then head home satisfied from your evening.

the last time I was in Berlin I noticed that despite everyone being out for a twelve hour sesh shift, nobody seemed to be particuarly wild or out-of-control, not even the obvious tourists, I think the long-distance marathon pacing is a healthier practice than the UK sprint bingeing.

In Lisbon we all go to someone's house at 7am... when lockdown and early closing started no-one could figure out why neighbours were complaining suddenly and then we were like "oh Yeah, it's cos you get away with 25 people back to Joao's and loud music if people have already got up, it doesn't go down so well at 3am".

To those tying the madness of america to its colonial condition, similar events have transpired across the Americas, as in all the countries in north and south america. Now we can't pretend Brazil isn't Mad but maybe the US seems so especially mad because of how strongly it believes the world should be mad with them

Years ago i was in the pub with some friends, it was shortly after 9/11, and we were talking about the equivalency issue, how 9/11 type stuff happened all the time in countries other than the USA, and you'd stopped batting an eyelid.

Anyway, someone raised the idea of America as an adolescent nation, relatively young in country terms, and brash/arrogant to go with it.

Sort of a simplistic formulation when I look back on it now, bug does also make sense.

To link it with what you've just said about Brazil, I'm imagining a Bollywood style film, where two brothers are born, but one is white and the other non-white...

Did you ever read 'I hate the internet' by Jarett Kobek? Cos he has this routine in there about melanin content... Like constantly has this thing around how so and so was discriminated against cos they had a higher melanin content etc.

I would maybe read that before ILD, it's more fun, less controversial. And they, Kobek and kraus, are connected cos he did a semiotext(e) book, 'Atta', which is good, but not as good as either 'I hate the internet' or 'I love dick'.
