Full Disclosure - i worked w WG from the time i called him up up to the screening of Johnny M.
And did love the early ones - BC through Mona Lisa Overdrive.
John Shirley introduced us.
I / we ( Black Rain ) were more or less de facto music directors for the man.
BEB released parts of the Neuromancer ( Audio Book ) and Johnny Mnemonic sdtks we did bk in that day.
In 1984 we were setting up a cyberpunk event for Tokyo when a concerned young lady informed us a J ad guy told her "cyberpunk already happened ".
In 1990's one of the illbient crew didn't quite get it when i said "cyberpunk ? that already happened ?"
Being he was from W Virginia / Virginia, we got along straight off and took from each other for those years.
There would have been a proper movie ( directed by Sogo Ishii who later did the Halber Mensch video w ENB ), there WAS an SRL video w Bruce Sterling' text.
Unfinished bug wars video game again w Bruce' text.
And i worked on Johnny for years and years , did a tech rewrite, introduced main cats, choose which story for Longo to do, did the first music edit - and got bought out when Sony took it over, thinking because Keanu was in it it was bound to be a hit right ?
Wrong, and i got up out the screening theatre chair wiping one tear , joined up w Jack Womack, we found Gibsey and we all walked out muttering to ourselves.
Well, if not for Keanu in that movie- he would not have been in Matrix !
Haha, let alone this videogame i keep hearing ppl rag on ...
Haven't seen nor heard it and have zero interest.
Gibsey's next ones lost me ( even the one which had hijacked the story we were going to use for the Sogo movie ), the ones that followed those were not much use either. Guy gave way too much cred or pages to UK 'marketing types' and at one point said " There is no underground ".
When Bono's crew was added to the Neuromancer Audio Book sdtk , i thought
"That's a sign - time to get out".
More recent cyberpunk / biopunk that was worthy ?
