had no idea but hope he pulls throughcatalog has been sectioned sadly. i dont know how long hes going to be in for, hopefully not long but thats why youve hanvet seen him in a while
lol nah both are British i don't know how you missed this considering how you talked about watching MTV Base in uni cause these 2 were on at the time.not so keen on the first one - i never heard it before though. i like it when all the english rappers use english-isms but it also gets a bit boring. good torvill and dean reference though. one thing i did think with this that the combo of the very bright big beat and the tight close ups on the video made it look a bit more convincingly american. the very end 10 secs as well, when a new tune comes in, liked that one.
2nd one really good - dancehall feel. not heard it before. i was a bit thrown cos i thought this couple was a british selection or something but this is nyc right?
i like geto boys, i bought the album 'til death do us part' years ago. think i got it cos it was namechecked somewhere in connection with schoolly d who is one of my favourites.
this one on that album i really love, the relentlessness of it and variety of crew voices.
there's an almost black comedy / very over the top feel to geto boys, with the controlled and slow, deliberate flows plus the sound FX and samples, you can enjoy it on a slightly different level if that makes sense.
you sort of know what you're gonna get with them, they've found something to do and they do it well.
mr hyde i never heard of before, i prefer the melody of the geto boys one. this one's a bit more menacing, but also a bit more monotonous.
i also don't think the rapping is quite as good... it's a bit newer sounding?
i like both of these, prefer the first one.
He's something to do with Too Short I think.E-40 is a name I recognise but that's about it.
I feel like you must be reffering to this track which was part of the then popular "hyphy" sound which despite being one of the more well known songs from that period it actually came out quite lateE-40 is a name I recognise but that's about it. Sort of a trendy one at a certain time?
yeah and then almost would've gotten punctured like a hot air balloon by Oakland goons if 40 didn't tell them to back offAlso famously got rated 0 out of 10 as a rapper by Biggie Smalls.
i can agree with you on hyphy but Detroit? with the response to Babyface Ray's album that came out not too long ago nah if anything Detroit's taken over the spot that Atlanta had last decade as much as that might hurt some peoples feelings in hereHyphy never really got trendy but it was a paradigmatic and early example of blog rap, Detroit is the new figurehead for blog rap. Music with a regional appeal that fails to go mainstream but instead gets championed by a small online audience.
