actually that kind of breathy singing in in mainstream pop/rock format brings to mind a few 90s things
definitely prefer this low key way of doing pop ballads (i guess they count as ballads, i mean 'slow emotional songs' essentially) to their equivalent in the 90s / 00s
It's interesting I mean, her vocal is so much more fragile, intimate than the 90s stuff—and I think this is true of a lot of contemporary music. EDIT: Even compared, I think, to the Mazzy/Cranberries stuff. Which totally has the softness, the whisper, but doesn't sound like "THIS WAS RECORDED ON AN EXPENSIVE CONDENSER MIC"
