part of the fabric of life at the moment isn't it. you see it in wire a bit too, the championing / coverage of things because people think its morally right to do so, rather than because they're getting anything in particular out of the music.But I do suspect that its a shoe-in for album of the year at a lot of outlets not because of its musical quality (which ofc is all a matter of subjective opinion) but because of its importance, real or notional, in terms of throwing a spotlight on black/queer culture in the mainstream. I mean it ticks all the boxes for music journalism anxious to be perceived as woke/LGBT+ positive. And the narrative of house music being recaptured by black/queer culture (again, bogus or not) is one that would appeal to critics too.
