It's surely only a matter of time before the poor, mad transes realise that A) you were factually correct and B) had their best interests at heart all along, and petition the Vatican to have you named a living saint.

Where did I say that one exception is the 'correct answer'? I think you've inadvertently revealed that you believe there to be only one unprincipled exception, only that you can't explain it (when you are asked to explain how one can end up in the wrong body you said nothing).
Occam's razor dictates that all these corporeal dysphoria conditions are of the same kind, so you're current stance would then imply that there's a host of other trans identities that are being unfairly maligned.
