It's interesting, too, diving into the history of things cos for example Raekwon 'Only built 4 cuban linx' came out in 1995 but the single 'Heaven and Hell' came out in 1994. OKAY THAT ISN'T THAT INTERESTING but if you weren't around or plugged in at the time it gives you a bit more context around how music was coming out.

94 was a terrible year for dancehall/reggae artists. In January Tiger crashed his motorbike, nearly died, and was left with a brain injury that ended his career. Sluggy ranks died in a car accident in July, then in December Garnett Silk died in one of the worst tragedies in the history of the music.

That whole dynamic of single/album has been a bit lost now, afaik — a single dropping and then months of anticipation

Maybe that still does happen but I'm unaware of it

Favourite release of the year, so sublime it borders on the ridiculous

aces in the deck, each have their own flavour but, as you can hear, Mr Kirk was never less than busy carving out moods within mid or low tempo brackets or honing his signature woohoo craft sounds of the period here (bpm’s in descending order as they were on the lp)

Born Again Pagans for

Took some searching but the worst release of the year, a rehashed ‘Yeke Yeke‘ (already a crime) complete with Donna Summer riff ripoff
