why would he make the crowd leave?
i thought the problem people had with tim reaper was that he too was too consistently mining and referencing old sounds - does he also have some kind of harsh noise wall side that he likes to bust out every now and then?
public records, which dilbert absolutely loves, is a nice slightly fancy club with a killer soundsystem that persists in booking proper lineups, but its in a normie bit of brooklyn with no other clubs and so it's a crowd that just wants to go out somewhere and take selfies rather than respectable ravers

Dilbert works there as the janitor, like Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting. One day they're going to realise he's a jungle genius after someone catches him on the decks after hours.

there's a good story on the discord about someone mistaking CCL for a barman while they were playing and asking them for a cocktail

i think he wrote somewhere that he asked them if he could clean it for free because he loves it so much but they turned him down and called him weird, it was something like that

@Corpsey - i guess what i'm asking is what and how many signifiers of trad jungle does there need to be for you to also be satisfied that it's still actual jungle while also being something new and fresh

I feel like autechre pointed a way forward for jungle in 1994 (just add a few sub bass sounds here and there), but no one took up the mantle

I can still easily dance to that, and it also doesn't just sound really nerdy like a lot of later ae.

and the idm "drill n bass" bass sounds of people like squarepusher or aphex twin get discounted because I guess there isn't enough samples of some guy saying "jah" this and whatever - just gets dismissed as "student music" while people say why didn't anyone ever do anything new?

^in fact, I used to BLAST that in my ride, and had girls trying to wave me down

it's actually kind of amazing that I can still hear anything after so many decades of noise abuse at home, in the car, DJing, and going to clubs/raves whatever and also getting older - i think i'll just wake up one day real soon and not be able to hear anything at all :(

is this jungle?
it has got hip hop samples, but everything eventually gets so mangled and processed in the most gloriously nerdy ways, but still hits hard

breakcore, hmm - not sure, def not flashcore

on this one there's no hip hop samples, and more out of this world, but still easily danceable imo (I guess it maybe depends on how well-attuned your ears are to picking up that they are still metered 4/4 rhythms)

Its still nerdy, I mean I think this would have fitted in at Metalheadz (I heard Photek 'Hidden Camera' on a late 90s Goldie CD for example) and I'm not saying its bad but you can tell its from that warp world, somehow.

For one thing I don't want this thread to be all about this and for another I don't want to get embroiled in defining what jungle is/isn't, but I think for THIS SORT OF jungle they're doing I would like to hear them take their undeniable skills at chopping breaks and so on and keep the dancefloor energy but take the sound palette out of the early 90s.

But yeah you're onto something in pointing out that jungle needs to have certain jungle signifiers to be jungle.

ok, so give me an example of an early jungle tune you like that is/was popular enough that it can easily be found digitally, legally
and then an example of the kind of track that has the kind of sounds you would like to hear added, and i'll try to make something happen

or it could even be one of the new well-produced tracks that leave you bored
