Great 2 Step?

Oh the humanity.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but this has to be one of the finest 2step tunes I've ever heard. It breaks both the No Groove Chronicles and No Locked On rules of the thread though.

Needless to say the bass just isn't there on this rip, it's immense on vinyl.

I could only find a short clip of this one online, and it's not really 2step but with retrospect you can hear in tracks like this how 2step came about.

DJ Infinity - Wicked Sound

I've got a shelf of unusual 2step at home, I'll dig out some names later.

yeah incredible tune. quite obscure given the various pressings of the other mixes of Anytime but an absolute belter.

that UV mix is nuts too. rolling it for the second time in a row now.

This release is top notch:

Fly Ladies by MC Juiceman on the A side is the best track on the record, but this is great. I love the deeper, bassier 2step that was coming out around this period that didn't get too dark and wasn't too breaks influence.

This is another classic

Eric H And DJ Joseph - Upstate / The Task and the Madd Flex & Afta Hours Remix remix of Nitin Sawhney - Immigrant are tops too, though in an even more laid back style. I have a mix somewhere with all of these tracks mixed with a bit of pinch and burial, I shall endeavour to find it.

been trying to find a reasonably priced copy of Crazy for ages, incredible tune

I had no idea it was going for a lot these days, most of my DFL stuff is pretty ragged these days though.

Brotherhood deserve a mention too, their releases on Shelflife, Ride it Riddims and especially the K.C.A. - Spirit remix on Virtuoso are great.

Yeah, i've been tempted to pay a very big amount for Crazy a few times, won't ever forgive myself for sleeping on it! that and Oddz' Bump Dis, i know i'll end up paying an unreasonable price someday for one of those :(

btw Brotherhood's remix of Spirit is in stock at DnR in case anyone's interested.

While we are on a classics tip, I just dug out Groove Chronicles remix of N-Tyce's 'Telefunkin', which I always considered as a kind of a prequel to Stone Cold, with the same kind of monster dread bassline, the rnb vocals and almost jungle-ish beats

That's the MC Juiceman - Fly Ladies track I mentioned earlier. It's cut from a rather dodgy mix so it has a Martyn tune over the begining and a Groove Chronicles one over the end. Excellent tune though.

Thanks for these Ory.

Anyone knows what tune is at 10 minutes into part 3? right between his remix of "it's gonna be my way" and that "i refuse" tune

yea i've been caning this mix more consistently than just about anything for quite a while now.

i was wondering if i could get a few ids from you folk, probably all really obvious, but i just wasn't there at the time... so...

in the 3rd part right at the 15 minute mark... "i break down... and cry." does sound like a Gurley production, but i don't know it if so. love those washes the rip through. and the vocal work is pretty ridiculous at times too.

also in the 3rd part around the 31 min mark: "it's like a drug to me..."

from the 2nd part, coming in around the 14 mark... "baby not... too late"
runs in straight into Been Here Before by Zed Bias (did i already mention how great this mix is? simply on track selection alone).

and would this be the place for me to belatedly big up Brackles remix of Heartbreaker by MSTRKRFT? is this the kind of thing that will never come out? it's pretty amazing.

Wild Horses
Brackles was commissioned to do a 'dubstep' remix and was a little apprehensive about what he presented to them in the end, but really...its a great piece of music. (I'm ignorant of the original though)

Tumbling Dice
I've gone through the thread and picked out a few things to pick up but the concentration is on 12s and single songs. I don't know much about the 2-step canon - are there some albums that I should check out? Classics? Don't skip out on the obvious because when the whole 2-step thing went down, I was in a small American town listening to punk.

Sunship - Is This Real is a decent 2step album, but most of the good trax on it were released as singles anyway. then there's Phuturistix but that's bordering on jazzy broken beat stuff.

as luka says, stick to the 12"s...

2-step didnt have (in my view) a definitive compilation like the 4/4 stuff did with the Locked On series. The Pure Garage series was always chock a block with filler, which was a pity because I'm sure EZ was a good club & radio DJ. These are two alright CD's:
