What about these African Pearls compilations,Mali 70, Congo 70 or this one? Anyone know much about them, or able to recommend one above the others?

wow that Guiné Discotheque looks sweet. as does the Electric Mali .

my favorite in the Pearl series, without having heard the new ones, is the first, Congo: Rumba On the River, which is also probably the one most friendly to western ears... but all are excellent.

if you are drawn to the 70s sound, highly recomend the Nigeria Special — Modern Highlife, Afro Sounds, & Nigerian Blues 1970-76, improbably delicious. and the other ones in this "Special" series look serious too.

while searching for that Nigeria Rock Special i came across a compilation this random dood made in this area, sharing some tracks with the official release.

listening now, pretty damn sweet.
