Haven't seen the film, and haven't read it since high school, but I can start to appreciate, incomprehensively, how empathy can stretch beyond my comprehension. I'm inclined to view empathy as something that can be leveraged in critical ways, if handled with sophistication and care. Making certain psychic impacts that transcend or make even disintegrate logic. The Green Knight
Gawain (let’s call him Gavin), well you know the rest. This rude as fuck green cunt rides into King Arthur’s court while they’re eating and offers up a ridiculous challenge. It has spectacular sound design in this scene, but the Green Knight is voiced by that cunt from the Office who does Drew Pritchard and ruins it from there

A mate thought it was ok. Thought it was ridiculous personally, Gavin’s journey isn’t represented with any panache. The Leek Hills don’t feature. Game of Thrones has fucked this genre for at least another 25 years. It’s an epic piece of literature, possibly best served by a narrator and/or animation, not cloaks and ridiculous facial hair. Import tale for Stan in that experience, empathy and temporality are a stranger brew than you can ever imagine (plot spoiler averted)

A shame as I’d been looking forward to it as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a cornerstone text for me - I did my dissertation on it many years ago. The reviews have generally not been kind. Birtwhistle did an opera based on it but I know fuck all about opera. The Green Knight

he looks like a caricature of a leading man and has this stilted quality to his acting. gives everything he's in this slight air of comedy. I think it worked to his advantage playing an antagonist in CollateralI also watched Jerry Maguire for the first time ever on the weekend and that is a weird film we should talk about more. Everything Tom Cruise touches is always slightly off.

One thing that's interesting is that both Lynch and Villeneuve seemed to run out of energy at the same point - Lynch dealt with that by making the second half last about five minutes with lots of "and five years later this happened" type voiceovers that completely fail to convey any sense of time passing, while Villeneuve went "fuck it I'll stop here and do another film".Dune. Put blue food colouring in my eyes this morning ready to watch in an empty home. Kids out, feet up, couple of croissants, bourgeois marmalade
Looks good for the first 15minutes or so. You even see a spaceship landing craft’s feet flex. Wow. Did you see the metal flex bruv? Then Beast Rabban showed up. Something weird about that actor’s forehead gradient. Oh god, it hits slowly - this is pants
Drifted for about 30mins and despite it being a day off, work calls started flooding so that’s the umpteenth day off ruined that I’ve had to work where the time owed is eventually converted to £. Couldn’t even fall asleep to it
Not seen this film in years and I agree with your point generally but the Mission Impossible series (from 4 onwards) redeems Cruise for me x1000. Also Edge of Tomorrow/Live.Die.Repeat.I also watched Jerry Maguire for the first time ever on the weekend and that is a weird film we should talk about more.
