i hear talk of there being quite a bit of ketamine in berlin but honestly i haven't seen evidence of it. (never tried it and don't want to.) as far as i can tell you'll see most of it at the extreme afters, like bar25, where the music sort of ceases to matter. plenty of E and coke in berlin.
barcelona's club scene is phenomenal at first glance, but when you live there, it gets a bit old pretty fast. first of all, we don't have the closing times berlin does - everything closes at 5 or 5:30 on the dot. given that spaniards don't go out until 2 (at the earliest) or 3 (more like it), that doesn't give parties much of a chance to go off. there are some afters, but the ones i went to were really gross -- a lot of fucked up guys trying to hit on girls, and not much more. actually i remember one such after i went to and the DJs literally weren't even beatmatching their records. it was terrible.
i do like the clubs (loft, nitsa etc) but i wish there were more of them -- i don't feel like going those places more than once a month or so. there's a real lack of mid-sized clubs (say, 200-400 people) with decent sound systems. and there's also a lack of private/underground/illegal warehouse parties and afters, especially for techno. (the squat scene seems to have quite a few parties but they're predictably more of a crusty/traveller bent, and i'm afraid my tastes are too bougie for that.) i think the best thing we have in barcelona is the beach parties on sundays, which go from mid-afternoon til midnight or so. lovely.
