Congestion pricing

nyc considering instituting a congestion pricing scheme for much of manhattan, curious to know what folks in london and area feel about the pluses/minuses. does it work?

I live in London and don't drive (never have). I love the congestion charge. I like the logic of the idea - either drive, and pay money to improve public transport, or don't drive, and ease congestion. To a non driver, that's a great deal

I used to work at Elephant and Castle, on the southern tip of the congestion zone. At the time it was introduced, the drop in traffic was noticeable, though I couldn't say whether it's stayed down or gone back up again. The charge started as a fiver, and is now eight quid. As I recall, the price rise made no difference at all.
