T2 has a major PR company behind him now if nothing else I think. I'm interested to see if the media are interested in him/bassline independent of 'heartbroken'.. or if they'll just decide it's not worth the investment of time and energy, and just hype it as a one-off. Cos there are shitloads of dance tunes that chart in the top ten and aren't really noticed by the meeja innit.

But not a major record label by the look of things. The BBC chart page lists his label as:
2nv/aatw/mnb and unlike all the other chart entries he has no Website link listed.I wonder why they can't link to his Myspace page?

T2 has a deal with Universal.

You music journalists have no excuse to believe 'it came out on an independent label, honest' in the day and age of the Indie rock revival.

REFLECTIVE: LIVE PA: Jodie Aysha - T2 Heartbroken + TS7 + Virgo (Mr V) + Martin Leverton & more

LIVE ROOM: UPFRONT BASSLINE

LIVE PA: JODIE AYSHA - HEARTBROKEN // TS7 // VIRGO (MR V) // MARTIN LEVERTON // TEX & GBH // TOUGH T & MICKY T // JOHN ALLEN // STEVE WILSON D-NO & MISS T JAMIE HUMPHRIES SHAUN BURGIN

EARTH ROOM: CLASSIC BASSLINE HOUSE

Sheffield's number one bassline house night. Just good tunes with no attitude over two rooms of quality upfront basslines and old skool classics

DOORS 10.30PM TIL 5AM

it's a publishing deal though

T2 has a deal with Universal

check last weeks Music Week...it's kinda a good look for him

2NV are independent but probably use major label muscle or pay for pluggers (legalised payola)

I mean it was record of the week with Jo Whiley at one stage?!

Why do you think it got radio 1 playlist? It certainly wasn't because 2NV got it on there.

When someone signs a publishing deal, they company involved generally tries their best to make the most money possible out of it.

That's as lazily written as I expected it to be. Tailor made for the Grauniad's editors looking for the newest trends, whilst summarily dismissing previous ones.

'' Back at Vibe, however, the atmosphere is edgy. Several people decline to talk to the Guardian, one with a terse "fuck off" '': :D

didnt you lot know? as soon as an article on a new scene gets published in the guardian or any big broadsheet, all the other scenes immediately PERISH! soon as the ink dries on the page in fact. the timing is quite uncanny.

reynolds on bassline -
Above all, the whole aspect of "deep" you got with garage, signposted with song titles both in proper US garage like Hardrive's "Deep Inside" and in improper UK garage like Lady Penelope and Abstrac's "Deeper", the way there's a recession of space within the mix, layers of depth, with dubby sounds flickering at different levels--all that seems to be squeezed out in the bassline house. Bassline seems much more in your face and to my ears has something of the "flat" sound I associate with Justice and all those French disko-roque type outfits (which really leap out at you through computer speakers but I can only imagine is supremely grating through a big system). Perhaps the depth in bassline house comes across more in club situ, but I doubt it somehow.

not sure about that last bit, esp seeing as he says he heard it on a tape made from placing his walkman next to his PS speakers (what does he expect?!) but despite bassline being very suitable/purpose built? for mp3 listening (ie not much weight or layers to the sound), i dont think thats totally right. listening to dj q's flex remix right now and theres a lot of bass sounds inside the mix. the music itself is very 'upfront' and immediate and all that, but its not flat or all high/mid range and nothing else.

it's pure fairground sensation type music like hardcore was isn't it - no need for deepness it's about screaming in your face energy and feeling the bass go mental.

So I was right then. :D

Oh yeh, and my girl went to a bassline night the other day. She now loves it. It's like a knife in the back, I tells ya!

i love you all but really now BASSLINE ISNT NICHE..and its really got fuck all to do with us garage LOL..most kids that rave dont read the guardian and wont have heard of todd edwards..itd be the equivalent of smash hits covering crunk in USA and crediting Nelly with inventing it.

this shits been popping off in the midlands and up north for about 2 years now...
your hardly on the cutting edge of music journaliasm or the 'underground' covering the highlights of niche 2 years late when its all made like 150 mile radius of where u sit right now

when you pick t2 or mr.v theres a million more producers and white labels that are big and need light.

fly to Angola and cover Kuduro ..or fly me and ill write the article, its fascinating..maybe cover Scottie B in baltimore ? hes the dogs bollocks.... reading blogs and articles on niche is hilarious..get a train to derby or somewhere and go out ?!

peace
