it's times like these when true colors come out. it's amazing.
sort of a tented e-refugee camp, yh i wouldn't be surprised. well as long as the OMG LEGERND INJOKE INJOKE INJOKE crew don't find it.
If we're going to get all Colombo about this, don't you think it a bit odd that they're having a party on November 14th at an undisclosed location that presumably will be empty unless the DF crew get on it?
heh, i might be playing at that

I imagine this thread will no doubt be taking on an influx of refugees this month.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I am so pleased to see such zen-like courage - even if it turns out to be a temporary closure. Wonderful. Big up dubway and all involved.
It's a garage thing.
Well, I think it's great when people avoid the temptation of getting too careerist about the music they love. Dubway could have cashed in a number of times with dubstep forum and he didn't. He loved the music, and the scene, too much to do that.
And it's great that, in the face of the increasing commercialisation and dilution of dubstep, that we get such a grand gesture, of defiance, of a certain purity. Because a certain level of commercialisation is fine, it helps artists make a living and is the lifeblood of the scene, to a degree. But there is always a danger that the wrong kind of commercialisation will hollow out the music. Bleach it of all its vitality. Now, there probably isn't that much that Dubway and co can do about stopping dubstep from going the way of drum and bass, because if loads of wannabe producers pile in and do stuff that sounds like dubstep, looks like dubstep, but lacks all the visceral power that dubstep originally possessed in spades, as is already happening, then the least we can do is make a proud declaration of the kind of dubstep we want. And if the dubstep forum becomes overrun with so many aggressively ignorant newbies that the vibe of the place is, if not ruined, then at least reduced to a pale imitation of what it once was, then I think it's brilliant that he pulls the plug.
Even if it comes back in two days or two weeks or two months, the gesture has been made. And it might work. For this is a struggle worth having. Because thus far, dubstep has been a blessed scene. The nights have at their best been incredibly enjoyable, uplifting, even spiritual sessions of deep space bass, and their best was attained frequently. I don't want to lose that. And it is something the dubstep naysayers have never understood. This is deeply affecting music. For a lot of people, dubstep really did change their life.
But as I posted in the family forum, I think dubstep is mutating into something else; the garage meme is mutating. Partly into Hessle-style future garage, partly into strange hybrids of funky, partly into deep soulful dread, and more, much more. But this is the point where the real headz seperate themselves. The newbies have to raise their game to catch up.

If you're going to make a grand gesture like that, why not make it obvious by actually telling people the reasons behind doing it? Otherwise its just going to start up again in a few weeks/months and all the people that were on there before will go back on again.
I dunno if there's enough distance between the dsf mods and the dubstep industry/community itself for them to be in any position to criticize anyone/anything within the dubstep scene. One of the good things about the forum was that it was a community in which DJs/producers/fanboys all posted and so there was a real sense of participation/transparency (not sure that's the right word...), but that's also one of the reasons why people were generally reluctant to criticize the direction the music took. Nobody wants to seem like an arsehole to a producer online, after all.
