Just got it off ebay "buy it now" for about twenty euros I think.
There are definitely moments of beauty conjured up out of the feedback and the electronic noises. I actually haven't listened to it that much because I loaned it to my girlfriend for some reason soon after getting it.
I got an album yesterday called Electro-Harmonix Work Band or something, it's basically a load of studio musicians demonstrating effects pedals. Mostly not that great but the last track on the second side called I Am Not A Synthesizer (and which goes on for bloody ages) is interesting. It's loads of bleeps and stutters and spacey sounds and it reminds me a little of Dick Hyman's take on Give It Up Or Turn It Loose. It has loads of different phases over it's length and some of them aren't so good as others but there is definitely a good tune in their somewhere.

Here is what someone said about it on ebay

"COMMENTS : extremely RARE psych and funk breaks LP, album put out by Electro Harmonix to show how their analog guitar electronic effects worked. Six tracks played by a funky studio band (two guitars, bass & drums) loaded by all kind of weird effects (Big Muff, Smallstone, Memory Man, Octave Multiplexer, Doctor Q, Bad Stone, Golden Throat...) I'd kind of agree with that, some of the sounds do sound like scratches.

I've also been listening to a library album on MP2000 I got by a French guy called JP Decerf, it's the second one I've got by him and it's really nice and quite varied, mainly kind of darkish disco sound, a bit kraftwerky at times, one that's kind of psych funk style. All the tracks are pretty short though and none of them are as good as the best track on the other one I've got (called Magical Ring).

Lyrics Of Love does crack me up. And I'm not sure where he's going with the whole Disco American thing. :slanted: There's a moment on one of the songs where he sings 'we split the dimensions, and traveled much faster than three times the speed of light' where in combination with the music it sounds like he knows exactly what he's talking about. :eek:

JD Emmanuel- Wizards

Funny for years synth lps seemed to be considered to gauche an influence for electronic musicians to acknowledge...leaving the ground open for the "noise" underground...this was just been reissued on bread and animals...nice crude loner synth lp. actually has more of a library music feel, not as "kosmiche" as i was expecting. very nice.

Hmm. 'Synth lps' and 'electronic musicians' sound like slightly nebulous categories if you don't mind my saying so. ;)

I think the bigger names of shall we say 'less outre' synth music (JMJ, Vangelis, Tomita, Wendy Carlos rather than Bruce Haack, Raymond Scott or Todd Dockstader) have always been acknowledged, if not as important touchstones then at least as respected ancestors by most electronic musicians no? Maybe not by all those electronica kids... I guess you are referring to the ones that are more hamstrung by painful hip conditions.

I think with a lot of the lesser known or third tier stuff (hello Rick Van Der Linden) it's usually just that, not very well known and not very good. Not semi-precious gems like the Happy Dragon Band though.

Anyway on a vaguely relevant tip it's not a recommendation (cos it's pretty bad really) but I have been enjoying my 49p purchase of Bo Hansson's 'Music Inspired By Watership Down'. More progressive cod reggae and Belbury Poly style moogs. :)

it was a huge generalisation! :D however electronic music (i don't mean "dance" music) is almost intrinsically "forward looking" and a certain seriousness comes with that...and i think there has been much more of a tendency to reference academia and early "incidental" electronics (library music, radiophonic workshop etc) than synth lps ... until recently with all the cdr/ cassette zoners...

I'll admit to a Tomita lp- the one with a hideous version of the star wars theme! the cover art on those lps...:eek:

Self released in the early 80s I think, but it sounds like '73 - they used to have a website where you could stream it and buy vinyl copies for 400AUS or something. One track won an award from Roland for 'innovative synth usage'.

I'll try and 'up' it later if I can find my CD.

I should point out that it may be a bootleg - the provenance is questionable, anyone know how to tell?

The Maurizio M Series 12"s again, they all still sound amazingly relevant, I think possibly influenced by listening to the Burial album so much. Also going to see Aba Shanti for the first time in a few years, soon. I feel I need some bass pressure.:D

Does this have a real lofi feel or did I somehow download a copy ripped from vinyl? Also, some real Terry Riley-isms here, Shri Camel especially.
