It stops a lot of things reporting back without permission, not hear of anything like it on the PC but I bet there is something.

Zone Alarm will stop and ask you if you'd like to allow programs to connect to the internet. That's more or less what you need I think. It's free.

Not sure if that does all the ports on the way out but it's a good place to start but some programs actually shut down if they aren't allowed to report back, I know some Adobe product do this.

it's ableton i'm worried about specifically, someone told me that if the program works out it's cracked it can corrupt your files. I am looking towards buying ableton 7, but haven't got the money atm and would like to be able to keep working. Thanks for the suggestions.
