any misunderstanding is a tribute to the great job you've done with the track selection, graphics and concept in general. just listened to volumes 5 and 7 today for the first time, pretty cool. nice job.

Thanks! Hoping to have another mid-70s volume finished next week, but I'm kind of eager to get back to the 75-78 one I've started.

Yes, sorry had seen upthread and the expletive hurled at you, winking hard back... I guess this is where those smilies help ;)

Phew. Yeah, Age of Irony + Age of Internet, I guess smilies are a necessary evil.

These have been very pleasing things - I was playing the second one yesterday in my class beofre the start of the teaching day and I had a couple of boys pop their heads round the door to ask what I was listening to. They were suitably impressed!

Very nice! That's the dream, I guess--that if these kids these days are going to insist on making rock music, they'll suddenly see the light by hearing the far superior stuff of their forbears, swear off indie, and get a bit arty and right-way pretentious, yes? ; )

I've posted a mix this morning that I would guess is more Dissensian, though it may be an oldy to a couple people (I think it's what got me invited by Droid to the B'riddims party):

no probs man, loving the whole 'le tour du monde' thing a lot. That moondog track is just incredible, hadn't heard it before. My fav moondog tune was probably 'enough about human rights' but now, i think, it's this.

The album of canons or rounds from which that track comes wears out its welcome if listened to in one sitting (if I recall, it has something like 20 tracks) but in bursts of a few songs, it's incredibly charming and rather unique and timeless in terms of production execution. I already loved Moondog from the earlier lo-fi stuff and later orchestral stuff, but hearing that album was the clincher. On the whole it's a burst of sunshine sort of album, but the few darker tracks are also really something. Glad I could help tune you in!

A few mixes have been posted since that last one, but yesterday I put up one that might be of interest (if only nostalgic) for Dissensians: a "four LP," 53 track "box set" of late disco, electro-disco, and bits of the four-to-the-floor edge of post-punk. It's my first attempt at beatmatching, but hopefully it's not too clumsy (except where it's intentionally so):

composite_vol1-4_small.jpg

Italians do it better with il maestro Giorgio Moroder twice, and further featuring his indelible production for Three Degrees, Donna Summer, Munich Machine, and Sparks. Telex are here, as well as related projects Transvolta and Electronic System; and fellow Belgians Trevor and Geoff Bastow, and pre-Honeymoon Killers Aksak Maboul. Many of Daft Punks French forefathers are here: Moon Birds, Space Art, Droids, Roland Bocquet, Jean-Phillippe Goude, Heldon, the elusive Black Devil, Venus Gang and Francis Rimbert. Germany brings us godfathers Kraftwerk and Can (from their underrated late work), with Tangerine Dream’s Peter Baumann-crafted Leda, Gina X Performance and Liaisons Dangereuses. From Japan, Akira Sakata, Yellow Magic Orchestra and solo work from Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haruomi Hosono. Brits found here include Human League splitters B.E.F. and pseudonymic League Orchestra Unlimited; as well as Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, This Heat (with the seminal “24-Track Loop”), Ultravox’s John Foxx, XTC’s Andy “Mr.” Partridge, and Tortoise-blueprinting Brian Eno. Grace Jones is here (Jamaican-American), along with South Africa’s Hot R.S. (with an unlikely but amazing cover of “In A Gadda Da Vida,”) Australia’s Essendon Airport, Canadian proto Hi-NRGers Lime, and the Soviets Zodiac. The USA rounds it out with heroes Patrick Cowley, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Hamilton Bohannon, Funkadelic, and Suicide; with lesser knowns Industry (whose psycho proto-jungle will blow your mind), Chromium, and hardly least, Arthur Russel’s Loose Joints.

I'm really proud of this one, love if those of you who can go in for the Droid-ish soundscape stuff and/or just weird dark music in general were to check it out:
