yeah, and i figured maybe people had promos. i like it a lot. this is maybe obvious but it strikes me as a midpoint between the crisp teklife stuff and the weirder mu-championed stuff. the older tracks i recognize, like "steamidity", still hold up. i'm into "invisibu boogie" but i'm iffy on the scratches.

*cheeky plug* london juke massive you should all come down to our regular tracks party next friday - http://www.dissensus.com/showthread...mp-Footwork-in-London...)&p=299036#post299036

it's still the only 100% 160 bpm juke & footwork party in the capital...expect to hear upfront authentic chicago tracks mixed in alongside mutant worldwide futurism, all on a proper decent rig...free on the door all night long...
if you live in London, you can't seriously call yourself a juke/footwork fan if you don't go to this night.
no responses? what is this, passive agression?

I know it's Chicago & all, but how did he get robbed in broad daylight by a guy with no weapon and he put up no fight whatsoever, and he was travelling with his guys as well, so he outnumbered the robber?

And why were they filming Nate just casually walking down the street as well?
And to top it off, he had no money in his pocket?

I have no reason to believe that this is a publicity stunt (what kind of publicity would getting robbed on film be lol) but this thing seems well odd...

being the privileged, middle-class pussy that i am, i didn't find anything LOL about that video and wish i could un-see it. i know there are far more violent videos on youtube but it was still unsettling to watch the bare power dynamic at work (i want it, i'm taking it) while nate sits there helplessly. he pretty much surrenders while people just walk by and look the other way. it's a bit sickening, actually.

It's desensitization really...

To be honest, I do find it interesting whenever people are talking about Juke, nobody notices that it's now more or less the domain of older producers, while the younger kids like Nate or Tha Pope have moved onto rap because maybe there's more immediate money, or they feel like it just makes more sense in their culture (it reminds me of how one of the first Atlanta Bass rappers later joined a funk-metal band since rock was the more 'universal' culture, only to have Andre 3000 from Outkast recognize him at a show.) And nobody bothers to give the same sort of interest to Nate & Co., obviously the music's different so I doubt people are as impressed, but it feels weird to acknowledge these kids only for their past achievements.

It's also interesting because as I pointed out, I assume Nate's financial success is mostly in regard to his juke production (I don't see him getting production credits in any of the new Chicago rappers, and while he's done a couple of shows, I doubt that it's enough, or large bookings). So knowing that Nate occasionally does get money from people buying the Planet Mu album (assuming he's recouped) it's weird how he's maybe using it to fuel his rap career which has... At least, from my perspective and his local scene's perspective, gone in circles.

the reason people have forgotten/only care about the old stuff is just as you said, he hasnt really been doing much juke-wise since that album and from what ive heard, the rap stuff isnt that interesting. its not like people dont care about what teens are doing with rap in chicago (keef, rese, etc etc), they just dont care when its a guy who should maybe be making footwork instead. from what ive seen though, the kids are into dancing to footwork, older guys are into making the music... it is odd though, yeah. i guess theres no financial motivation to make it, compared to hip hop. the old guys are just making it still as theyve been making house/juke/footwork so dont know any different.

Whoever uploaded the dj die and addison groove video gave it a lousy misleading description. Using a bunch of videos dated in '97 and claiming "This might give a little insight into whats really happening" and relating it to current protests is just lazy.
