Resurrecting this Thread
Hey guys, I thought I'll resurrect this thread, after all I love Disco.
I plan to post a rundown on my fav disco tracks year by year, in chronological order.
First a few explanations: I am leaning towards "electronic" disco, because that's the stuff I like most. Lot's of disco in the early years, from let's say 1974 (that was the year "disco" as a genre really took off) onwards was traditional in the sense it was done with "classic" instruments, no synths, no drum machines. Those early disco tracks were well.craftred, well-executed music, many times soul-music for the 1970s. Greatmusic without a doubt, but not so much interesting for me, since I prefer "tracks" opposed to "songs" and weird sounding synths, sound gimmicks and drum machines always solde me, and still do.
I'll just post records respectively tracks which are on youtube, so you'll have the sound accompanying to the lists.
So, we'll start with 1975:
Andrea True Connection "More more More"
A great song and also a sales chart hit in early 1976. The "plopping" sounds are the icing of the cake. Plus, also sampled here and there.
Barrabas "Family Size"
Barrabas were a disco outfit of the mid70s. This is an example of a more "funky" tune, slower, with a great groove (at least IMO)
another one from Barrabas:
"Mellow blow"
I especially enjoy this bc of the stomping groove, and the great hookline.
