What is the relevance of vampires in reggae ? There's quite a few tunes but I cant pin point who/what the vampire is. Sometimes its a spirit, sometimes its a downpressor, sometimes babylon. Im guessing its just an evil doer but why then a vampire ?

It's good question! I've always assumed it came from a love of schlock horror films in the same way all those spaghetti westerns turned up.

But it also links in with Obeah/Duppy stuff?

Yes def links in the obeah stuff

I done some a quick search on-line but cant find anything about the reasons or meaning. Maybe its just a generic term, dunno . . .

and while we're at it, what's a D? As in

"Throw the D, th, th, th, throw that D"

It randomly hit me today as I was making coffee that I didn't know what either of them were, and your internets isn't doing its job here.

... but "throw that D" doesn't make much sense in that context. Where have you heard it?

I think D's = Dubs,
Dubs = 20" rims (or bigger)
a few years back you had to pay big money to get 20" rims, so it was a sign of having money

Maybe a Westwood fan can confirm:p?

yeah, this was decent, esp. liked the bit on the *original* old geezer pirates out at sea.
