Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen vowed that pro-Trump rioters who entered the U.S. Capitol would "face the full consequences of their actions under the law," and those consequences could include being charged under President Trump's executive order authorizing up to 10 years in prison for "injury of federal property."
I'm sure we can all appreciate that particular irony.

I mean, tbh, I don't want to see them punished. Lock up the ringleader but the rest of them are thick as fuck. They can't even tie their own shoelaces.

@Leo and @luka just differ in the identity of the corpses they want to see.

the problem is locking up only the ringleaders makes them martyrs and inspires all the knuckle draggers to carry on.

also...

As aides urged Mr. Trump to issue a strong condemnation on Wednesday and he rejected that advice, the White House counsel, Pat A. Cipollone, warned Mr. Trump that he could face legal exposure for the riot given that he had urged his supporters to march to the Capitol and “fight” beforehand, according to people briefed on the discussion. The president had appeared to White House aides to be enjoying watching the scenes play out on television.

CNN reporting now that Donald Trump pressured VP Mike Pence to engineer a coup and threatened him with consequences if he didnt cooperate. "Pence's family also threatened".
So literally a mobster president celebrating as barbarian hordes penetrate the inner sanctum. I wonder if he actually rubbed his hands together with glee while that was happening.

But even here he was only prepared to go so far. He didn't say burn it down my pretties!

ok, maybe not kill'em all (maybe...), how about house arrest and strip them of their right to vote. that way they are an impotent political force and all the republicans just go back to being normal fatcat conservative dickheads instead of insurrectionist dickheads.

It's quite fitting that even when he tries to stage a coup it's a disaster. The coup equivalent of Rudy's landscaping company press conference.
His heart wasn't in it. He wanted to be naughty but was scared to cross the big red line

I think a lot of people talk about Trump's moral failings but one that is not mentioned that often is his cowardice - he was never going to actually clearly unequivocally say "I am with you soldiers, burn it all to the ground and impale that drunken bitch Pelosi" cos he realises he would be unequivocally risking his own enormous shiny orange hide.

when a mob guy says "nice store you got here, be a pity if something happened to it", he's actually doing more than making a general observation.

Although I'm not quite sure what he would of done if it had turned out they were
'Going to do it'

I mean there could be more people starving and it's a smaller percentage (due to population growth) but that might lead to an increase in rage right?
I've not been following this, but even if they're not starving, the poor are almost always malnourished and often live in food deserts where fresh produce is rare, cheap, ultraprocessed food abundant. Leads to chronic health problems, and then we get into the uninsured and medical debt.

This debate moved to its own special thread now. Food and Rage or something it's called.
