You look at the Marvel character roster, and it's rubbish isn't it. Other than Spider-Man and The Hulk they don't have any truly iconic characters.

But maybe cos DC is dominated so much by Superman and Batman it doesn't split into so many bits. Marvel has loads of characters who are about the same (in the public eye) so can get their own film easily enough. Like I dunno who is (or was, prior to the films) more popular out of Thor or Ant Man... but if you ask me who is more popular out of any other DC character and Superman I do know.
