I do haves to agree with biscuits here the scientific "consensus" is as much or more a social construct as it is tethered to physical fact

Eg There is a real chance climate change forecasts and causal stories (anthropogenic origins) are wrong. It is a small chance, I wouldn't bet on it, but scientists themselves are more divided on details than media portraits would paint; punishing dissenters reeks of medieval church logic

Remember when WHO said masks didn't work. Imagine if we had legally punished dissenters (beyond the social stigma many self righteous NYT readers held toward mask-wearers in those days)

Luka I'm sorry but your sister is a liberal cop with authoritarian tendencies I am sure you love her and she is a nice woman but this is an important part of her personality

This is because they believe they have a special relationship to history, science, and truth, which validates their opinions

Unfortunately, too few receive the education necessary to illuminate how the ideology has carefully massaged its statistics, how its history is the product of ideological curation, how the institutions it relies on and unskeptically believes in are as much an instrument of power and world making as they are one of world reflecting

People just do what their part of the internet tells them to do. "Liberals" and "Conservatives" are just a coding device utilised to distract you from the real power robbing "your" resources

The only real unifying behaviour is assuming the other side of your argument is full of knobheads

The exact same argument for the vaccine causing problems for x% of the population also applies to "long covid" and the like

I am not suggesting I have the answers

Reactionaries also have delusional beliefs that "science" or history are on their side, but it is pure negative, they bring in the "real truth" and "suppressed facts" to own the libs' utopian fantasy land.

It's a circle or at very least a quadrant now isn't it, rather than a simple binary. But it's hard for people (including me) to see nuance beyond a binary.

There really isn't though, and the fact you think there is is testament to how effective the fossil fuel industry's disinformation campaign has been.

If anything, climate scientists' predictions have erred on the side of being too conservative.

Here we have a classic example of a liberal attempting to handle cognitive dissonance of clashing evidence: he uses recourse to a "disinformation campaign" which he has learned all about from reading The Guardian
