@suspended, this thread started out as a chronicle of the hipster literary/scene-maker clique, doesn't seem like this WE Caleb thing belongs here, does it?
Yeah, it's a bit of a swerve, although there's also about ten pages of sports talk mid-thread IIRC, so relatively speaking, still on topic. The throughline, obviously, is "what young Brooklynites are buzzing about." Wanted to post, didn't have anywhere else more appropriate@suspended, this thread started out as a chronicle of the hipster literary/scene-maker clique, doesn't seem like this WE Caleb thing belongs here, does it?

That said, I oughta make a more concerted effort to keep the promised programming alive. I return to New York sometime this summer, mid- or late likely, so I'll have better gossip then.
and congrats on your first 100-page thread (shortly).
I saw someone saying that ghosting used to mean when someone disappeared totally from the life of someone they had known well for years, now it has apparently come to mean when you don't reply to a text from someone you have met once."the essence of the pop psych/self care culture that has given rise to the “west elm caleb” moment is the notion that you owe nothing to anyone else but at the same time are owed the utmost attention, care, and consideration by others and anything short of it is cruelty"
really like this. a lot of these ways that moral culture is changing (for the kind of people who are on twitter, to put it broadly, i mean it's not like this for everyone) are a bit contradictory. as they've always been i suppose, but in a new way. there is a certain level of unreality to it"the essence of the pop psych/self care culture that has given rise to the “west elm caleb” moment is the notion that you owe nothing to anyone else but at the same time are owed the utmost attention, care, and consideration by others and anything short of it is cruelty"
Absolutely. He said "Ohhh not this bullshit" without any hesitation. It had!
Yeah, I think one of the uglier impulses of liberalism is downplaying the debt we owe others around us. I mean, it was a good impulse at some point probably, or rather, there are certain cultures where that message is an important one. But these days it just feels hedonist, what people need is social contract, a sense of reciprocity, not a childish "I deserve to do whatever I want, I don't owe anyone anything in a pursuit of my own experience/pleasure"really like this. a lot of these ways that moral culture is changing (for the kind of people who are on twitter, to put it broadly, i mean it's not like this for everyone) are a bit contradictory. as they've always been i suppose, but in a new way. there is a certain level of unreality to it
